Midweek Entertainment with Skating Polly, Bugsy, and Retro Cowgirl

Step-siblings Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse founded Skating Polly, an alt-rock trio, in 2009 when they were just 9 and 14. Since 2017, the band has been garnering critical acclaim with their potent blend of indie pop and tinges of punk. They are slated to perform at the Paper Tiger on Wednesday, April 3, promising an evening filled with energy and raw talent.

Movements, Tigers Jaw, Webbed Wing, Paerish Take on the Stage

Following on Thursday, April 4 is California’s post-hardcore band, Movements. Emerging in 2015 as part of the “emo revival” uprising, Movements are known for their deep, poignant lyrics and compelling sound. The band’s latest work, RUCKUS!, embodies their signature energy while incorporating elements of pop, making for an interesting cocktail of genres. Tigers Jaw, Webbed Wing and Paerish serve as their supporting acts at the Vibes Event Center.

Weekend Highlight: Meshell Ndegeocello and Alex Maas

Saturday night, April 6, is set to be an impactful experience when genre-bridging phenomenon Meshell Ndegeocello takes to the stage at the Carver Community Cultural Center’s Jo Long Theater. Her eclectic blend of funk, jazz, rock and hip-hop has earned her multiple Grammy recognitions.

Simultaneously, Alex Maas, the prominent figure from Austin’s The Black Angels, is expected to charm the crowd with his personal and potent solo work at The Lonesome Rose. San Antonio’s very own Garrett T. Capps and Strawberry Jams add to the evening’s vibrancy with their performances.

Tuesday Night Delight with STRFKR, Ruth Radelet

Closing the week on April 9, Oregon-based synth-pop band STRFKR will delight fans with their unique take on alternative and electronica. The band’s recently released fifth album, Parallel Realms, stands testament to their experimental music and their ability to create catchy hits. Ruth Radelet offers her unique sound as the opener for this night at the Aztec Theatre.

Not only does this week’s lineup offer diverse genres to satisfy every music lover’s taste, but it also gives an occasion to visit some of the city’s best venues.
