Big Changes Coming to Loop 1604 in San Antonio This Weekend

Hey there, San Antonio friends! Hope you’re all doing well! If you’ve been driving around lately, you might have noticed some construction signs popping up here and there. Well, brace yourselves because this weekend, things are going to get a bit more intense on Loop 1604!

What’s Happening?

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a major construction closure for the weekend of October 25-28. This closure involves both the eastbound and westbound mainlanes of Loop 1604 at the I-10 interchange. But don’t worry! Mainlanes on Interstate 10 itself will remain open to traffic. Still, there will be some additional closures on the frontage roads and ramps, particularly Friday and Saturday nights.

When Can You Expect the Closures?

Mark your calendars because the closures are set to start at 9 PM Friday, October 25, and will continue until 5 AM Monday, October 28.

During this time, crews will be hard at work on the construction of some new flyover ramps at the interchange. It sounds like a big job, but it will definitely help improve our daily commutes in the long run!

Plan Ahead!

For those of you who may have weekend plans, it’s a good idea to plan ahead. Make sure to leave a bit earlier if you expect to pass through the area. Additionally, TxDOT advises that all these lane closures are subject to change, especially with the weather being unpredictable. So, stay tuned!

No Weekend Construction for the Holidays

Now, here’s a silver lining! TxDOT has also announced that there will be no major weekend construction closures scheduled between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. That means from November 27 to December 31, we can expect smoother travels without the worry of unexpected closures during the holiday season. Hooray!

Stay Updated!

If you want to stay in the loop about all the ongoing construction and traffic updates, be sure to check out TxDOT’s social media channels. Follow their posts on X and Facebook to get the most recent information. Keeping an eye on those updates is especially helpful during busy weekends or holidays!

Final Thoughts

In short, this weekend promises to be a bit tricky as the construction on Loop 1604 gets underway. But with everyone’s cooperation and a little forethought, we can all navigate through this phase together. Let’s be safe out there, and as always, drive safely, San Antonio!
