TxDOT Continues Loop 1604 North Expansion Project through Weekend

Effects of the Loop 1604 North Expansion

San Antonio, Several roadways around the city, including a high-traffic area on the Northwest side of the city, will continue to see slowdowns and closures as construction on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project proceeds into the coming weekend.

The Texas Department of Transportation has noted that a series of closures will affect the interchange of Loop 1604 and I-10. These closures aim to facilitate the expansion project and are expected to last until 5 a.m. Monday. However, the construction operations may cause delays and disruptions for motorists using this interchange.

Closure Details

Loop 1604 Eastbound Mains and towards I-10 Eastbound will be closed. Travelers on Loop 1604 EB will now exit at the Vance Jackson Road exit ramp and continue on the Loop 1604 EB frontage road. Road users will be able to re-enter the highway at the Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp.

Loop 1604 Westbound Mains towards both I-10 Eastbound and Westbound will be blocked. Those wishing to access I-10 EB from Loop 1604 WB will have to exit onto the Loop 1604 WB frontage road and travel through the I-10 interchange, completing a signalized left turn onto the I-10 EB frontage road lanes before re-entry.

I-10 Eastbound lanes to Loop 1604 Eastbound will be rerouted. Travellers will now exit at Exit 556 B and follow the I-10 EB frontage road to the Loop 1604 interchange and take a signalized right turn onto the Loop 1604 EB frontage road prior to re-entry.

I-10 Westbound lanes to Loop 1604 Eastbound will also be altered. All travelers on the I-10 WB main lanes will take the frontage road exit ramp (just north of UTSA Boulevard) and continue on the frontage road to the Loop 1604 EB frontage road.

Further Work and Updates

Additional closures will continue at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange to allow crews to install steel beams for the construction of the flyover ramps, providing a vital element of the updated interchange infrastructure.

Detailed closure information will be shared each week as the project progresses. The TxDOT has also confirmed that no major construction closures will be scheduled during the 4th of July holiday in order to minimize disruption to holiday traffic.

Like much outdoor work, construction schedules remain subject to change, contingent on weather permitting. The Loop 1604 North Expansion project is a major project undertaken by the Texas Department of Transportation to improve traffic flow and connectivity in San Antonio.
