SAN ANTONIO – Elderly man charged with murder following deadly shooting incident in Walmart parking lot

A 70-year-old man is facing murder charges in the wake of a deadly shooting that occurred outside a South Side Walmart, according to San Antonio authorities. The incident added another dark chapter to the city’s ever-growing crime log.

The Incident

Charged with murder is Michael Wayne Ludwig, as stated in a preliminary report issued Tuesday by the San Antonio Police Department. The event leading to this charge transpired on the Walmart parking lot located in the 1200 block of Southeast Military Drive near Roosevelt Avenue.

According to the officers who attended the scene Monday morning, Ludwig had either been sleeping or living in his vehicle located in the parking lot. It was here where he started an argument with another man. Shortly after the disagreement, Ludwig allegedly discharged his firearm at least twice, effectively ending the life of the man he’d been arguing with.

The Victim

The victim, a man who appeared to be in his 30s, has not been positively identified. There is a possibility he was homeless. His identity cannot be confirmed until next of kin is notified.

The Investigation

Immediately after the incident, Ludwig and a female companion, who was with him in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, were escorted to Public Safety Headquarters for questioning.

Considering the serious nature of the charges, if found guilty, Ludwig could face severe penalties, including imprisonment, fines, or both.

Seeking information

The San Antonio Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Incidents such as these are a reminder of the importance of community vigilance, awareness, and cooperation with local law enforcement authorities in combating crime and ensuring public safety.
