Houston Shines as Michelin Guide Celebrates Texas Restaurants
Guess what, foodies? Houston was buzzing this week as the much-anticipated Michelin Guide Texas Ceremony took place at the fantastic 713 Music Hall on November 11. This event marked a historic moment for the Lone Star State, as it was the first time in the 124-year legacy of the Michelin Guide that restaurants from Texas were officially recognized. So, if you thought Texas was just known for barbecue and Tex-Mex, it’s time to rethink your culinary biases!
Cheers to the Winners!
As the excitement filled the air, the awards began pouring in. The night kicked off with Julian Shaffer of Rye in Dallas grabbing the award for Exceptional Cocktails. Who doesn’t love a good drink, right? Following that buzz, Steven McDonald, the talented master sommelier from Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Houston, took home the Sommelier Award. All of this was just the beginning of a night packed with culinary accolades!
San Antonio Takes Center Stage
Speaking of festivities, our very own San Antonio made quite an impression at the ceremony! The first award for the city went to the dynamic duo, Hailey Pruitt and Lauren Beckham from Mixtli. They snagged the 2024 Service Award for their exceptional service. With Pruitt being a certified sommelier, and Beckham leading the bar program, it’s no surprise they stood out!
Michelin Stars Shine Bright!
The evening drew even more attention as the coveted Michelin Stars were awarded. Starting with the buzz around Barley Swine in Austin, Chef Bryce Gilmore was absolutely thrilled to receive the first-ever Michelin Star for Texas! Others joining the star-studded list included:
- BCN Taste & Tradition in Houston, led by Chef Luis Roger.
- Hestia, another Austin gem, with Chef Kevin Fink accepting the star.
- Le Jardinier in Houston, with chefs Felipe Botero and Alain Verzeroli accepting the accolade.
- Musaafer in Houston, led by chef Mayanik Istwal.
But wait, there’s more! The event kept the excitement going with several other restaurants receiving the distinguished Michelin recognition. Interstellar BBQ and Leroy and Lewis Barbecue from Austin didn’t miss out either, scooping up their own Michelin Stars!
Let’s Not Forget about Bib Gourmand!
For those who love excellent food at a great value, the Bib Gourmand award also features a number of honored restaurants. Five fantastic spots from the San Antonio area earned this recognition, highlighting the city’s culinary prowess. We can’t wait to check them out!
