Tragic Spate of Motorcycle Accidents Strikes San Antonio

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the San Antonio area has seen multiple motorcycle accidents leading to devastating losses. Just late Sunday evening, a 34-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after attempting to overtake an 18-wheeler on the busy South Loop 1604. The incident happened around 9:12 p.m. in the 2700 block, precisely at Oak Island Drive in far south Bexar County, shaking the local community to its core.

Witnesses shared that the motorcyclist was speeding through the westbound lanes before tragically colliding with another vehicle. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene; however, the motorcyclist was sadly pronounced dead before he could be transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, the driver and a passenger in the vehicle that was struck experienced injuries, including cuts on their heads and bruising on their shoulders. They were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

As the investigation unfolded, both directions of Loop 1604 were closed for around two hours, causing a significant traffic jam as authorities worked diligently to gather evidence and clear the area.

A Second Fatality Just Days Later

75-year-old motorcyclist faced a grim fate on Wetmore Road at approximately 5:45 a.m. in the 11000 block. The elderly man collided with a truck that was backing out of a parking lot. The accident was catastrophic, launching the motorcyclist off his bike and leaving him vulnerable to tragedy as his motorcycle landed on top of him.

To compound the horror, a passing SUV rolled over the already fallen motorcyclist. Emergency Medical Services responded swiftly, but unfortunately, they pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that neither the truck driver nor the SUV driver would face charges, and both stayed on-site to assist during the investigation.

As investigations continue, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to confirm the man’s identity and determine the cause of death.

Another Collision Reported

Interstate 35 in Schertz resulted in yet another loss of life. This occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers arrived to find the motorcyclist lying on the ground, with a good Samaritan heroically performing CPR in a desperate attempt to revive him. Despite the best efforts of those at the scene and medical responders, the motorcyclist was tragically pronounced dead.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to identify the motorcyclist from this crash, as local authorities continue their investigation to determine how the accident happened.

Community on Alert

As investigations proceed into these incidents, it’s essential for the community to come together to support one another during this profoundly challenging time.
