Hey, San Antonio! Mark your calendars because February 5, 2025, is going to be a thrilling day for local high school athletes. It’s National Signing Day, a chance for young stars from our community to commit to their dream colleges and universities. And here’s the best part: it’s not just about football this year! Athletes from a range of sports are throwing on their caps and gowns, ready to sign those scholarship agreements.
Let’s get into the nitty-gritty! A number of talented athletes are gearing up to represent Central Texas in various collegiate sports programs. Among them, we have football stars like Preston Baker, who’s taking his talents from Smithson Valley to Angelo State. Not to be outdone, Jaxon Baize is dribbling his way from Boerne to UT-Rio Grande Valley for basketball.
Footballers are certainly in the spotlight this signing day, with names like Braden Bays (Boerne to Rice University), Aaron Brown (Johnson High School to A&M-Kingsville), and Caleb Cappuccio (Reagan High School to Air Force) making headlines as they take the next step in their athletic careers. But it doesn’t stop there! Isaiah Champagne and Evan Drake from Pieper High School will both be suiting up for UIW, while Sam Draper heads from Johnson to Grambling State.
Even though football is getting the most love, other sports athletes are signing too! From baseball and softball to track & field and swimming, the future is looking bright for many of these young talents. Local high schools, including Johnson, Reagan, Smithson Valley, and Pieper, feature prominently in this year’s signing festivities, celebrating the achievements of several committed athletes.
In recent years, the early signing period has made its mark in December, easing the pressure of February signing day. However, come next month, the excitement is still palpable. With many athletes also receiving walk-on offers, the roster of committed students is growing. A notable signing includes Cade Spradling, who will be heading to Air Force from Smithson Valley.
It’s not just about representing on the field; these athletes are also thinking about their academic futures. Many of them are choosing majors from a wide array of disciplines, including Business, Education, and Engineering. This shows that while they’re talented in athletics, they’re equally committed to their studies, ready to tackle both challenges head-on.
To commemorate this momentous occasion, several high schools around San Antonio are hosting celebration ceremonies. Parents, friends, and coaches will gather to witness these remarkable commitments, honoring the hard work and dedication of their favorite athletes. It’s a time to celebrate dreams coming true!
As we approach this captivating day, we want to hear from coaches and parents about any additional signings and events in your local schools. Let’s make sure to keep everyone in the loop as we cheer on our San Antonio athletes! This year’s National Signing Day represents more than just a signature — it’s the launching pad for the next chapter in the lives of these young champions.
