San Antonio, Texas: North East ISD District 2 Presents Its Candidates
The North East Independent School District 2 (NEISD) is preparing for the significant school board election, with a trio of candidates competing to replace the late Terri Williams, former District 2 trustee. Williams, who passed away in 2023, had her term, due to end in 2026. The District 2 presents candidates Jacqueline Klein, Rhonda Rowland and Tracie Shelton who are now vying for the position in the May 4 elections.
Background
The District 2 race hosts three candidates coming from diverse backgrounds. Rhonda Rowland, a retired educator hails from the Windcrest area. Jacqueline Klein, a consultant, and Tracie Shelton, a business advisor, both reside in the southwestern region of District 2. The district stretches from the Live Oak borders along I-35 to the boundaries of Alamo Heights ISD and Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
The Race Progresses
Terri Williams won her last election in 2022 by defeating Klein and Rowland. Ever since Williams’ demise, school board members have yet to reach a consensus on appointing an interim replacement from a selection pool, where Klein, Rowland, and Shelton had submitted their applications for the vacancy last fall.
Candidate Vision
Each candidate had the opportunity to explain why they believed they were the most qualified choice for the position, presenting their existing experience within the North East Independent School District. These responses illustrate their vision on key issues such as safety, fiscal stewardship, teacher retention, and school discipline.
Jacqueline Klein’s Perspective
Klein, who is a longstanding NEISD resident and parent, put forth that her first-hand experience with the school district and previous campaign involvement provides her a unique understanding of district issues. Rhonda Rowland’s Vision
Rowland, leveraging her over three decades of experience in education and NEISD central office, considers herself highly equipped for the role. Rowland’s campaign focuses on recruiting and retaining excellent teachers, cultivating safe and disciplined schools, and involving parents and teachers in decision-making.
Tracie Shelton’s Stand
Shelton, as a business owner and adviser, relies on her business acumen and personal experience of guiding her children through K-12 years. Her campaign’s key issues include appropriate state funding, teacher retention, and community connectivity for the success of current and future students.
Further Voting Information
The early voting will occur from April 22-25, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional voting slots will be available on April 27, 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and April 28 from noon to 6 p.m. The official election day falls on May 4 when polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Further details on polling sites will be available soon.
