November is here, and after a dry and warm October, the weather gods seem to have smiled upon us this month! We kicked off this fresh November with a couple of rainy days, giving our parched land a much-needed drink. If you’ve been wondering just how much rain graced nearby neighborhoods recently, let’s dive into the juicy details!
Our recent storms provided some solid rainfall amounts in various regions. Bexar County saw some areas get really lucky with rain totals reaching almost 2 and a quarter inches! For instance, near Rebecca Creek Road, across from the local golf course, Mother Nature really turned on the sprinklers.
But that’s not all! We also witnessed generous rainfall in the surrounding areas, including Kendall, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties. And if you were in Bandera or Medina Counties, or out over to Atascosa and Wilson Counties, you might have also enjoyed a nice shower or two!
Now, here’s a little bit of good news: on November 2, we also saw some impressive rain along the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. This is a crucial area that helps replenish our primary water supply in San Antonio. While it takes a few days for the water to filter into the aquifer, early reports show that we’re seeing a small uptick in water levels. Yay for that!
However, it’s important to keep our feet on the ground—literally. The aquifer is still sitting more than 30 feet below average. This means that while the recent rains are beneficial, we need a lot more of it to get back to healthy levels.
With the recent rains, it’s definitely a step in the right direction for our beloved aquifer, especially after what felt like an eternity of dry weather. The water may take some time to work its way down to replenish the aquifer, but every little bit helps as we head into the colder months. We just need to keep our fingers crossed for more rain to keep the levels rising.
As we transition into the holiday season, keeping an eye on our local weather will be key. Sunshine or clouds, we all want to ensure that we stay hydrated and aware of water needs throughout our community. Plus, let’s not forget—there are tons of outdoor plans that get halted if the rain goes haywire!
For those of you feeling the cooler action in the air, take some time to step outside and enjoy it. A bit of chilliness combined with the refreshing smell of rain can make San Antonio feel a bit magical. Perfect weather for cozy nights in or fun excursions around town.
In summary, while we still have a ways to go with our water supply, November is off to a fabulous start with some much-needed rain! Let’s keep our hopes high for more precipitation as we venture through the month. After all, hope is what keeps our spirits high, and a sprightly November is exactly what we need as we approach the festive season!
