Major Traffic Alert: NW Side Set for Three Major Construction Closures This Weekend

Major Construction Closures Planned

San Antonio, brace yourself for some significant delays. Authorities have announced three major construction closures along Loop 1604 on the NW Side this coming weekend. The closure is slated to kick off from 9 p.m. Friday and run through 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

This significant traffic disruption forms part of the continuous Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. Motorists, particularly those residing on the far Northwest Side, are advised to plan their trips appropriately to avoid the affected areas.

Details of Closures

Notably, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plans to fully close the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes from the Bitters Road exit ramp to the Blanco Road entrance ramp. This closure will allow for the repavement of existing lanes over the entire weekend. Local law enforcement will be on the ground to direct traffic at intersections during this period.

Detour Information

Traffic on Loop 1604 eastbound will be redirected to the Bitters Road exit ramp, then continue on the eastbound frontage road. Motorists will then re-enter the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes via the entrance ramp situated east of Blanco Road.

Additionally, TxDOT is set to implement a nightly closure at the Loop 1604 within the Interstate 10 interchange. These closures are planned to facilitate the concrete girders’ placement for the eastbound direct connector and over Tradesman Drive. They are expected to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., from Friday through to Sunday.

The third closure will also happen nightly, this time at the Kyle Seale Parkway intersection, including the turnarounds. These will facilitate the placement of concrete beams, running from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., from Friday till Sunday.

Loop 1604 Expansion Project

The closures constitute substantial segments of the ongoing Loop 1604 Expansion Project. The initiative aims to widen Loop 1604 from four lanes to ten lanes between Bandera Road and Potranco Road. The project targets to enhance mobility, accommodate future growth, and improve safety for all road users. Motorists are thus urged to bear with the temporary inconveniences as these improvements take place.

Traffic updates concerning this construction will be provided as appropriate. Drivers are urged to exercise caution while driving around these and other construction zones. They are also encouraged to plan their trips accordingly to minimize any disruption to their regular travel schedule.

Note: All provided detour information and closure times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.
