San Antonio’s Newest Gem: The Eclectic Postino Wine Bar Opens Its Doors

San Antonio Welcomes the Eclectic Postino Wine Bar

If you find yourself strolling through the heart of San Antonio, be sure to stop by the newest addition to the local food and drink scene: the Postino Wine Bar. Located at 2600 Broadway, this vibrant venue has captured the essence of Texas while offering a unique twist that the Postino brand is known for. Just stepping inside is an experience in itself, with colorful chandeliers dancing in the light and large, artistic panels subtly separating sections of the space, reminiscent of coral reefs.

A Peek Inside Postino

The interior design at Postino makes it hard to focus on just one element. From the midcentury furnishings, including a luxurious gold velveteen curved sofa, to a stunning mural of Warhol-style celebrity renderings crafted from folded paint chips, there’s always something eye-catching around every corner. This knack for eclectic decor is a calling card for Postino, a wine bar chain that originated in Phoenix, Arizona, and has recently expanded its footprint in Texas. After successfully opening a location at The Rim earlier this year, the Broadway venue welcomed its first guests in April.

A Touch of Home

What makes this location even more special is its connection to San Antonio. Postino’s co-founder, Lauren Bailey, was born and raised here, giving her a deep appreciation for the city. Although she moved to Indiana as a child, she returned often, creating lasting memories of family outings to the River Walk and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. “I’ve always had an affinity for San Antonio,” Bailey shared. “I find the people of San Antonio to be really positive and happy.”

A Heartfelt Aesthetic

Bailey’s artistic background plays a significant role in shaping the look and feel of Postino. With a degree in art, she sought to reclaim spaces steeped in history. The Broadway location, housed in a former paint store, pays homage to its past in many creative ways. “We like to tell the story of the buildings. We like a great restoration,” Bailey explained. This isn’t just about aesthetics for her; it’s about honoring the tales each location tells.

Finding Treasures

One of Bailey’s favorite ways to decorate is by hunting for antiques in Texas. She enjoys exploring Round Top with Upward Projects art director Aaron Kimberlin for distinctive furnishings that fit each restaurant’s vibe. “I’m like a hoarder, but I have a place to put stuff,” she laughed, hinting at the vast warehouse brimming with treasures waiting to be chosen for the next Postino.

A Culinary Journey

If you think that running a successful chain won’t allow for fun dining experiences, think again! Bailey frequently returns to San Antonio to indulge in the local food scene. When asked about her perfect day, she shared, “I’m going to start with a cocktail at the bar at Hotel Emma. It’s so unique.” After that, she would relish a meal at Mon Chou Chou, known for its exceptional service.

She also enjoys visiting the Pearl area, possibly stopping for a sweet treat at Lick Honest Ice Creams and finishing her day in Southtown, where she appreciates the late-night vibe at Bar Loretta and the inventive culinary offerings at Hot Joy. “It’s critical for restaurateurs to spend time in new establishments to keep a pulse on the industry,” Bailey noted, admiring the growth and vibrancy of her hometown.

Experience Postino

The charm and character of Postino Wine Bar make it more than just a place to grab a drink; it’s a lovely gathering space with artistic flair that honors San Antonio’s rich history. Whether it’s indulging in a delicious meal or enjoying a glass of wine amidst a backdrop of creative decor, visiting Postino feels like coming home. As Bailey beautifully puts it, “We’re always trying to push ourselves, do what people haven’t done yet.”

So why not pay a visit and create your own memories at Postino? You might just find that it captures your heart as it has captured many others.
