San Antonio Boy Narrowly Escapes Fatal Injury in Road Rage Shooting
A 10-year-old boy from San Antonio became an innocent victim of a malicious road-rage attack on Wednesday night when a speeding driver opened fire at his family’s vehicle, resulting in a bullet graze on the boy. The parents appeal to the community to assist in apprehending the gunman.
The Attack That Sent Shock Waves Through The Community
The tranquility of an ordinary family ride home shattered when a raging driver targeted the family’s vehicle. “This vehicle swooped up from behind us, blaring on the horn at a remarkable speed. There was no space for me to shift lanes. I could only get over once space was available,” recalled Clay Carabajal, father of the young victim.
Mr. Carabajal, his wife, and three children found themselves in this horrific situation on the I-35 and 410 interchange. They became a target for an irate driver desperate to overtake their vehicle. Despite trying to distance themselves, the situation quickly escalated into a full-blown nightmare.
“As he approached the rear of our vehicle, he effortlessly pulled out his gun and fired—four shots targeted at our tire. Unfortunately, one bullet penetrated the car and grazed my son,” said an emotional Carabajal.
A Desperate Pursuit for Justice
Despite the shock and concern for the welfare of his family, Carabajal tried to chase down the gunman out of the determination that he wouldn’t evade justice. However, the assailant made a quick exit towards the airport, and Carabajal lost his trail.
Rising Incidents of Road Rage
Information from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office indicates a startling increase in road rage incidents. So far in 2024, the unit has responded to a total of 138 road rage calls, a significant 47% increase from the 94 calls made over the same period in 2023. The Alarming statistics prompted the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) to issue a cautionary statement advising citizens to promote courteous and defensive driving.
The Impact on the Traumatized Family
While the young victim is expected to make a full recovery, the psychological wounds may take time to heal. Carabajal laments how the incident has instilled fear in his children. “My daughter is now terrified at the sight of every dark car, thinking they are coming to shoot her,” he said.
A Heartfelt Plea to the San Antonio Community
In a heartfelt plea to the citizens of San Antonio, a shaken Carabajal voiced his hopes for community solidarity. “We are confident that we can count on our community to help solve this and protect not just us but every family here in our dear Alamo City,”
