San Antonio, Texas – A heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a teacher at Excelled Montessori Plus lost her life following a car crash that involved several preschool-aged children. The tragic event took place around 4 p.m., coinciding with the time parents were arriving to pick up their children after a holiday performance.
According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the crash happened when an unidentified parent loaded her children into her vehicle and then unexpectedly accelerated into the building and struck another car. This collision caused both vehicles to crash into a fence, where multiple children were playing. Alexia Rosales, a 22-year-old teacher who was actively engaging with the children, was tragically pinned under one of the cars for a period before emergency responders could extract her.
Firefighters utilized a hydraulic lift to free Rosales from beneath the vehicle, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office reported that at least five children were taken to a local hospital for injuries that varied from serious to precautionary assessments. Fortunately, all children are reported to be alive.
The involved parent reportedly has a past medical history which may have affected her driving ability during the incident. However, Sheriff Salazar stated that intoxication is not considered a factor in the crash. Currently, it remains unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed against the parent.
Excelled Montessori Plus confirmed Rosales’ death in a heartfelt Facebook post on Friday. The community highlighted her role not only as a teacher but also as a guiding light for the children and the school. “Her smile, laughter, and boundless love for the children and everyone around her made our school feel like a second home,” the school’s post stated. The loss of Rosales has left a significant void in the hearts of her colleagues, students, and their families.
In the wake of this tragic event, Excelled Montessori Plus initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with Rosales’ funeral expenses and other financial burdens faced by her family. The response from the community has been overwhelming, with more than $20,000 raised—exceeding the initial goal of $10,000. A statement on the fundraising page emphasized how key Rosales was to everyone, saying she “was family” and describing her as a source of joy and comfort for students.
As the community continues to rally around Rosales’ family, they reflect on her lasting impact as a passionate educator who treated each child with the utmost care. The school community expressed deep sorrow over her untimely passing, stating, “Losing Alexia feels like losing a part of ourselves.” Her warmth and infectious spirit will be missed profoundly, leaving a legacy that many will cherish and remember.
