Hey there, San Antonio! It looks like we might finally get a taste of fall weather after a long stretch of near-record heat. Initially, forecasters thought a cold front would stall out before reaching our wonderful city, but guess what? It seems those chilly temps are coming our way this week after all!
As we round the corner to Thursday evening, expect a significant dip in temperatures across the greater San Antonio-Austin area. The weather experts have mapped out a plan for us, and it includes a cold front sweeping in that night. There’s even a chance for some showers to accompany this cool change, so make sure to keep an umbrella handy!
The National Weather Service has been keeping a close eye on the situation. A dry line is expected to drift into Val Verde County on Wednesday night, and shortly after, the cold front will move over most, if not all, of our area. With this weather shift interacting with a moist airmass, we should expect some rainfall. Just think of it as Mother Nature giving us a little break from the prolonged drought that’s been tough on our region.
Now, don’t pack away those summer clothes just yet! We’re looking at a couple more days where temperatures will hover around the 90-degree mark, but by Friday, November 1, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The high is projected to be about 83 degrees, which is nearly a 10-degree drop from the sizzling temps we’ve been sweating through this past month.
With the mornings and nights still warm, we will see lows stay in the mid to low 70s, so those cozy sweaters might have to wait a little longer. But, it’s a small price to pay for some cooler afternoons!
Now let’s talk about those rain chances! From Tuesday, October 29, through Saturday, various forecasts are indicating a daily chance of rain that flirts with about 20% to 30%. Wednesday looks to be the standout day with a 40% shot at some showers, so whether you’re out running errands or enjoying some time outdoors, you might just want to keep an eye on the sky.
While rain is great for breaking up the long dry spell, let’s hope it’s enough to help our plants and give our thirsty landscape a little refreshing boost! With some good fortune, the rain we do receive will ease the drought situation that’s lingering over the Texas Panhandle.
So that just about wraps up our weather scoop for San Antonio this week! Let’s embrace the change, and keep our fingers crossed for some rain to get us through the dry days ahead.
Stay warm out there and enjoy the beautiful fall colors as they begin to peek through!
