In San Antonio, the popular burger pop-up Pumpers, known for its irreverent energy and delicious food, is opening a permanent location on Broadway. Chef Stefan Bowers, famous for his weekly pop-up events since 2020, will helm the new establishment.
Bowers announced on a recent social media post that the new location for Pumpers will be the redeveloped building at 1101 Broadway, surrounded by an array of drinking and dining hotspots. The decision brings his weekly pop-up events into a durable, continually accessible location and is much-awaited by burger enthusiasts who have regularly flocked to his pop-up events.
Speaking to local food critics, the chef expressed his hopes to open up the new location by late July. He plans for the Broadway location to offer the same mouthwatering Wagyu beef patties that have wowed crowds at his pop-up venues. The delightful creations, adorned with melty cheese, mustard, ketchup, onions and pickles, are prepared in the traditional smashburger style, guaranteeing a crispy exterior and a juicy interior.
The Broadway building where Pumpers will locate is in close quarters with a few other dining and drinking destinations. Nola Brunch & Beignets, which is also planning to open later this spring, will be Pumpers’ close neighbour. Other popular hotspots like the Elsewhere Garden Bar & Kitchen, Commonwealth Coffee, Kiki’s on Jones and the new Hops & Hounds location are also just around the corner.
While 1986 may seem like a lifetime ago, the local community has continued its unwavering dedication to supporting and uplifting the region’s culture, events, food and drink. Since that time, a community-oriented support system has developed, ensuring local businesses like Pumpers receive the promotion they deserve.
By continuing to support local ventures, we help ensure accessibility to local news, culture and food remains open and free to everyone. In paying it forward, we not only help to nurture our culture but offer it as a gift to the rest to enjoy as well.
