San Antonio Burger Week Dishes Out Specialty Sandos With a Peppery Heat Twist

The much anticipated San Antonio Burger Week is almost upon us, and this year the burgers are packing more than just a flavorful punch. The running theme for 2024 seems to be “heat”, with many eateries offering specialty burgers featuring chile-accented sauces to pepper-infused cheese. This 11-day festival of indulgence runs from June 14 to 24, with at least 30 different restaurants across the San Antonio area participating in the fiery extravaganza.

Charitable Cause Underlying the Savory Delicacies

As much as the Burger Week is a celebration of all things burger, it’s also about a noble cause. A significant portion from the sale of each specialty burger, priced $8.99 and upwards, will be donated to the San Antonio Food Bank. The nonprofit organization is committed to the mission of feeding local families in need, making your indulgence not just delightfully palatable but beautifully altruistic as well.

Indulge in a Variety of Flavors

The variety of flavors on offer is nothing short of remarkable. Cuarto de Kilo Mexican Burgers, a popular eatery in Helotes, is bringing a hidden gem from its secret menu for this special event. The Bestia Burger features nine ounces of beef heftily topped with three slices of pepper jack cheese, crispy bacon, and a generous serving of their unique Bestia dip, infused with fiery habanero peppers. Sophia Jimenez, owner of Cuarto de Kilo, says the Bestia Burger enjoys great popularity among customers who love a spicy twist to their meaty delights.

A number of other restaurants are also joining the spicy bandwagon. These include Boiler House with its Big Texan Patriot Burger, Cover-3 with The Grand Slammy featuring a honey-chipotle aioli, and Benjie’s Munch with their adobo-spiced mushrooms as a fiery twist on the classic mushroom Swiss burger.

Alleviating the Heat: Exciting Alternatives for the Heat-Averse

While the underlying theme is a fiery heat, don’t worry if you’re not a fan of spicy food. Participating restaurants have also curated a fine selection of non-spicy burgers. To add a layer of international flair, eateries are moving from traditional burger cheeses such as cheddar and American to incorporate more exciting alternatives.

Mon Chou Chou, a French brasserie at The Pearl, has crafted a French Burger with Gruyere cheese. The decision was inspired by creating a sauce that adds both sweetness and acidity to the patty according to Mon Chou Chou boss Philippe Placé.

SoHill Cafe’s blackened beef patty, boasting a blanket of melted Gorgonzola, will be served on a brioche bun, adding a gourmet touch to the Burger Week specialty fare.

Burger Week presents an exciting opportunity for the residents of San Antonio to enjoy a diversity of flavors. Whether you crave a peppery thrill or prefer to stick to classic or international flavors, San Antonio Burger Week is likely to have a sando that tempts your palate.
