Local business owner claims top prize

San Antonio witnessed a momentous occasion in the local business community as Hess Street Foods’ owner Maria Flores emerged as the top contender in H-E-B’s Quest for Texas Best competition. Flores was awarded the first prize for her chorizo seasoning paste and Mexican chorizo seasoning, sparking joy among the local entrepreneurship community.

Generous cash reward and further opportunity

As a reward for her winning entries, Flores received a check of $20,000. In addition to the monetary prospect, her products will also be sold in H-E-B grocery stores within the next 1-2 months. This is expected to significantly boost her business and bring her prodigious culinary creations to a wider audience.

Passion fuels business success

Flores’ story is one of dedication and sentiment, as she started her business to preserve and honour her grandmother’s cherished recipes. She spoke of how her late grandparents had briefly relocated to San Antonio and purchased a home on Hess Street before returning to Coahuila, Mexico. Her product line serves as a tribute to them, their ideals, and the American Dream they once pursued.

Ahead of the pack

The H-E-B Quest for Texas Best competition was a grand occasion, featuring a myriad of incredible creations from a host of talented entrepreneurs. Among them, the grand prize and $25,000 were awarded to Austin business owner Donelle Mendoza for her Birria Seasoning Bombs. In the second place, Meredith Sears & Family’s Certified Country Lemonade from Austin received a cash reward of $15,000. Matt Balke and Hannah Davis of Dallas won the third prize with a cash award of $10,000 for their Blue Corn Butterscotch Pancake Mix.

Spreading the flavor locally

Flores has been selling her award-winning products at the New Braunfels Farmers Market every weekend and monthly at the Bulverde Farmers Market. The attention garnered by the recent win is expected to amplify her business prospects significantly, reaching more potential customers with the tantalizing tastes of her treasured family recipes.

Conclusion

The entrepreneurs of Texas are indeed a force to be reckoned with, as evidenced by the outstanding entries to the competition. With her award-winning products, Maria Flores from San Antonio captured both the hearts and palates of the H-E-B Quest for Texas Best judges.
