San Antonio Prepares for a Weekend Full of Music and Día de los Muertos Celebrations

San Antonio Gears Up for a Busy Weekend of Celebrations

San Antonio is buzzing with excitement as the weekend approaches, filled with festivities, music, and cultural celebrations. With a combination of Día de los Muertos events and a highly anticipated concert featuring Billy Joel and Sting, the downtown area is set to welcome thousands of visitors. This means that traffic, normally a challenge, is predicted to become even more congested. So, if you’re planning to head downtown, here’s what you need to know!

Expect Heavy Traffic

City officials are sounding the alarm for those making the trip to the heart of the city. With so many events happening simultaneously, getting in and out of downtown will require a bit of planning. To make your journey smoother, city leaders are encouraging everyone to plan ahead and arrive early. The streets will likely be bustling, and it’s wise to prepare for potential traffic snags due to construction projects along the way.

Public Transportation is Your Friend!

If you want to dodge the traffic headache, consider using public transportation or ride-sharing options. VIA’s Park & Ride service is a convenient way to travel for the concert at the Alamodome this Friday night. Buses will run from the Crossroads Park & Ride and Frost Bank Center Lots 6 & 7 directly to the concert venue from 5 to 7 p.m. and will return one hour after the show ends. It’s a fantastic option to skip the stress of parking!

Plan Your Route

If driving is your chosen mode of transport this weekend, keep in mind to look for alternate routes, especially around the Alamodome and the bustling intersection of Interstate 37/Highway 281. The city’s Know Before You Go Downtown website offers a wealth of resources, parking information, and traffic updates to assist you in your journey.

Día de los Muertos Events

The festivities kick off with the Day of the Dead River Parade, taking place on the beautiful River Walk, accompanied by the colorful Day of the Dead Festival at La Villita. These events will also continue on Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, Hemisfair will host the Muertos Fest, while Market Square will be bustling with a Cultural Celebration of Día de los Muertos, all happening over the weekend!

Don’t forget about the River North Block Party on Broadway, scheduled for Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m.. It’s a perfect opportunity to soak in the culture and festivities!

Parking Made Easy

For those who do prefer to drive, convenient parking options are available through the city’s SAPark website, which showcases all City-owned garages and lots. Be mindful of parking event rates, which will be capped at $15 maximum in several facilities from Friday afternoon through Sunday.

Don’t miss the St. Mary’s Garage (205 E. Travis St.) and City Tower Garage (60 N. Flores St.), both conveniently located near the River Walk and Houston Street. Many parking spots are usually open during busy times too!

Enjoy the Weekend!

This weekend promises to be a vibrant mix of culture, music, and community spirit. Whether you’re heading downtown for the concerts, the Día de los Muertos celebrations, or simply to soak in the lively atmosphere, remember to plan your trip wisely. With some forethought and smart travel choices, you’ll be able to navigate the crowds and enjoy all that San Antonio has to offer!
