San Antonio – The City of San Antonio has announced a series of closures for Friday, April 26 in observance of Fiesta San Jacinto Day and the Battle of Flowers. With the city preparing for a day brimming with vibrant celebrations, most city offices are set to be closed, although public safety and emergency services will remain on high alert to ensure the festivities go off without a hitch.

First Responders & City Services

City services such as Police, Fire, and EMS personnel, as well as Animal Care Officers, will remain duty-bound throughout the day. The city’s 3-1-1 Call Center will also be operational from 8 am until 5 pm, and urgent animal concerns and traffic signal malfunctions can be reported from 5 pm until 11 pm by pressing option 1. However, crucial services such as Housing Assistance Hotline and Homeless Connections Hotline alongside Abatement Teams will remain inactive.

Although on-street parking meters will enjoy a holiday, regular parking rates will apply to all city-operated garages and lots. Code Enforcement Officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage, ensuring the celebrations are carried out within the bounds of the law.

Waste Collection

Waste collection will operate on regular collection days. However, waste drop-off centers like the Bitters Brush recycling site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, and Household Hazardous Waste sites (Bitters, Frio City Road, Rigsby, and Culebra) will remain closed for the day.

Open & Closed Facilities

City parks and trails as well as Doris Griffin Senior Centers (manned by WellMed personnel), La Villita, and Market Square shops will remain open.

On the contrary, all branch libraries including Central Library, City of San Antonio Community Centers, along with senior centers and sports complexes will remain closed. The San Antonio Municipal Court, Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center, and the Alamodome Box Office will not be operational. Offices providing educational services will also remain closed, including Head Start administrative offices, and Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers and corporate offices.
