San Antonio experiencing a chilly winter landscape ahead of the cold front.
San Antonio is bracing for a major cold snap as bone-chilling arctic air is expected to sweep in, bringing below-average temperatures next week. Starting with a light freeze this weekend, the weather will take a drastic turn with a significant drop in temperatures by Tuesday evening, leading to conditions resembling the teens by Wednesday. Residents should prepare for one of the coldest mornings on record Thursday, with the potential for a hard freeze on Friday. While a wintry mix is possible, predictions suggest it may not materialize. Warmer days are anticipated by the following weekend.
San Antonio, get ready! A wave of bone-chilling arctic air is on its way, and it looks like we’re gearing up for some seriously cold weather next week that could break records.
The first cold front will swoop in starting Saturday night. This front is expected to bring just a light freeze, so Monday morning might feel a bit frosty but nothing we can’t handle. It’s on the chillier side, so keep those jackets handy when heading out!
But hold on to your hats because come Tuesday evening, we’ll be seeing a second cold front—and this one is much colder! Expect a drastic temperature drop, potentially between 15 to 20 degrees in just an hour! Now, that’s the kind of weather that makes you want to stay cuddled up indoors.
Now, Wednesday is when things will really feel like winter has finally settled in. As strong north winds start to blow, it’ll feel like we’re living in the teens—that’s right, not the cozy twenties, but teens. So, make sure you have your warmest gear out!
As we move into Thursday morning, we might just wake up to a chilly surprise. Current predictions suggest that temperatures could drop to the teens and low 20s, making it one of the coldest mornings we’ve seen in a while. In fact, we might break the record low of 26 degrees set back in 2021. That’s something to keep an eye on!
If you thought Thursday was cold, brace yourself for Friday too. There’s a chance we’ll experience hard freeze conditions again, with figures lingering in the 20s. So whether you’re on your morning commute or getting your morning coffee, it’s going to be chilly.
As for the night after Thursday, we might see increased cloud cover, which could keep temperatures from dropping into the teens once more. Exciting, right? However, don’t get your hopes up too high for wintery weather, as weather models show a less likely chance of precipitation with only a 20% chance of seeing a wintry mix of sleet or snow.
As we look beyond this deep freeze, temperatures should begin to ease back up by the weekend of February 22-23. That should give us all something to look forward to—sunshine and warmth could soon be back on the menu!
The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center suggests San Antonio might be under the influence of below-average temperatures next week, so keep those winter coats close. This winter, we’ve already had 11 days of freezing temperatures, just under the seasonal average of 14. Historically, the average last freeze date in our area is February 24, with 90% of freezes occurring in February or March. So, while we’ve had our fair share of cold, we should remain vigilant in case more is coming our way!
As San Antonio prepares for this arctic blast, stay warm, and keep checking in on the weather updates. Remember, a little preparation goes a long way in handling the chilly vibes heading towards us! Stay cozy, friends!
