In a shocking turn of events, a computer store located on San Antonio’s northwest side fell victim to a robbery early in the morning of September 30th. AllGen Computers, a well-regarded business that’s been serving the community for over 31 years, witnessed a thief make a brazen move that left employees and the community in disbelief.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., the suspect walked into the store situated in the 5000 block of Babcock Road. Dressed casually in a cap and a black shirt, he appeared to be a regular customer, even striking up a brief conversation with an employee about the laptops on display. However, in a matter of minutes, his intentions became clear when he dashed out of the store with a MacBook worth an astounding $1,800.
David Allen, the vice president and general manager of AllGen Computers, expressed his feelings of frustration after the theft. “He had his agenda in mind already. He caught us off guard; it was early in the morning,” Allen shared. With a mix of disbelief and disappointment in his voice, he emphasized the need to stay vigilant as criminals seem to come out when people least expect it.
Two employees at the store quickly sprang into action, chasing after the suspect, who made a speedy escape into the passenger seat of a white GMC SUV. In a dramatic twist, one of the employees tripped and fell right next to the vehicle, while another managed to take photos of the fleeing getaway car. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, leaving Allen relieved but still rattled by the fearless nature of the thief.
This incident isn’t an isolated case for AllGen Computers. The store has been the target of robbery attempts in the past. However, there has been one successful moment when employees managed to detain a suspect until the police arrived. Reflecting on these experiences, Allen noted, “These particular people, I don’t know if this is some type of challenge from their peers or what it’s related to but it’s a dangerous game they’re playing.”
Allen stressed a strong message to the community: “We’re tired of it and we’re going to be watching for you.” It’s crucial for everyone to remain alert and aware of their surroundings to spot suspicious activities. With the creeping feeling that these crimes might be part of a larger trend, there’s a sense of urgency to take action.
If anyone has information that could lead to an arrest of the suspect—who’s wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon—there’s a chance to make a difference. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for valuable tips provided directly to them. Individuals can reach out by calling 210-224-STOP (210-224-7867) to share any information they might have.
Despite the challenges posed by such brazen thefts, David Allen and his team at AllGen Computers remain committed to providing excellent service to the San Antonio community. As they navigate this troubling incident, the hope is that true community spirit will shine through, helping to bring the thief to justice and restoring peace to the local business landscape.
