San Antonio Dog Attack: Owner Apologizes After Incident

In San Antonio, a shocking incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon when a woman was attacked by a pack of dogs while she was walking down West Southcross Boulevard near Somerset Road. The attack left her with a minor leg injury and raised serious concerns about pet ownership responsibilities in the neighborhood.

Owner Expresses Regret

The owner of the dogs, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed his regret over the incident, stating, “Unfortunately, the worst-case scenario happened. I’d like to apologize for being an irresponsible pet owner.” He explained that he was out of town when the dogs escaped his yard, claiming they are usually friendly dogs that bark but do not attack.

Details of the Attack

The San Antonio Police reported that the woman was attacked just before 4 p.m. The pack not only bit her but also caused damage to a police patrol vehicle and a truck belonging to Animal Care Services (ACS). Witnesses described horrifying scenes where the dogs were seen tearing apart parts of the police vehicle.

Immediate Actions Taken

Following the attack, ACS seized seven dogs from the owner’s property, leaving him with only two. ASC interim director Mike Shannon revealed that more than 30 citations were issued to the owner due to numerous violations, indicating a pattern of negligence.

Community Response

Neighbors expressed their fears about the dogs for some time. One individual mentioned, “If you walk, you have to walk on the other side of the street.” The sentiment is echoed by many, highlighting a shared concern for the safety of others in the community.

Ongoing Consequences

The attack is not an isolated incident for the owner. Previous reports from San Antonio Police indicate that they had been called to his home before due to dogs running loose and causing disturbances. The situation has become dire, with the potential for severe consequences not only for the owner but also for the surrounding community.

Victim’s Recovery

Thankfully, the victim is expected to recover from her injuries and was discharged from the hospital shortly after being treated. The incident has ignited conversations about the responsible ownership of pets and the safety of public spaces.

The Road Ahead

This situation serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of keeping pets secure and controlled. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this shocking attack, many are hoping for better safety measures and accountability for pet owners in the future.
