San Antonio Families Invited to Free Pirate-Themed Opera Night

San Antonio – Ready for an adventurous evening filled with bravado, music and the high seas? San Antonio families are invited to enjoy a free pirate-themed opera night with sea shanties, crafts and games this weekend in the heart of the city.

Event Overview

The event, brought to you by OPERA San Antonio, the Classical Music Institute, and the Main Plaza Conservancy, promises to take you to the seas and engage children and adults alike with the engaging power of opera music. Not just music, but it also offers an abundance of games, crafts, and dine and shop options for families.

Event Details

Slated to take place on Saturday, March 23, from 5-7 p.m., the event will take center stage at Main Plaza, located at 115 North Main Avenue. The first hour of the event will offer a host of activities for attendees. From exploring the world of musical instruments to learning sea shanties, attendees can also enjoy pirate-themed crafts and engage in family-friendly games.

The highlight of the event, a live concert featuring selections from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” along with other works inspired by the high seas, will follow from 6 pm onwards.

Experience the Opera in a Spread-Out Setting

To ensure a comfortable experience, patrons are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. The event also promises an opportunity for attendees to dine in the open and shop with local artisans and vendors. With free entry, anyone can join this night of high spirits and adventure.

Bringing The Community Together

Speaking on the occasion, Molly Hall-Villareal, the executive director of Main Plaza Conservancy said, “We are delighted to partner with OPERA San Antonio and Classical Music Institute to bring these talented performers to Main Plaza. How often do you get to see such amazing live music for free?” She further added, “The beauty of live opera performances in a welcoming outdoor setting is a perfect way to achieve our aim. We are grateful to have partners who also believe in the power of music, play, and community.”

This event aims to bring the local community together and engage them in a fun, educating and engaging way. So, pack up your lawn chairs, gather your family and sail into this musical night under the stars!
