In a momentous move for the city, the San Antonio City Council has officially approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association. One of the most exciting components of this agreement is the substantial wage increases for firefighters. Over the course of the next three years, firefighters can expect a total pay hike of 20%. Specifically, the agreed increments include a 7% increase for the fiscal year 2025, an 8% increase for 2026, and a final 5% increase for the year 2027. The total financial commitment for the city under this contract amounts to an impressive $109.6 million.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg expressed his enthusiasm regarding the new contract, stating that its approval signifies the start of an exciting new chapter. “I congratulate the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association and the City of San Antonio on turning a page for the betterment of our firefighters and their families,” he said.
