San Antonio is buzzing with excitement as Spirit Airlines announces its plans to expand services to and from the Alamo City. In a move that has local travelers celebrating, Spirit will launch a brand-new nonstop flight connecting San Antonio International Airport (SAT) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) starting April 9.
According to officials at San Antonio’s airport, this new addition will operate daily and year-round. Passengers can look forward to departing from SAT at 12:16 p.m., arriving in Atlanta at 3:41 p.m. Flights headed back to San Antonio from Atlanta will take off at 10:06 a.m. and will land in San Antonio by 11:26 a.m.. This new flight not only opens up more travel options but also makes it easier for San Antonio residents to visit one of the busiest airports in the U.S.
But wait, there’s more! Spirit Airlines isn’t stopping at Atlanta. The airline is also excited to introduce a special service from San Antonio to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport for the Mardi Gras season starting from February 20 through March 9. These flights will leave SAT at 11:30 a.m. and will touch down in New Orleans at 12:55 p.m.
Jacob Tyler, the air service administrator for San Antonio’s aviation department, expressed enthusiasm for the new Mardi Gras service, saying, “We’re pumped to see Spirit offering a new way for people to get to Mardi Gras.” This aligns perfectly with the time of year when the Big Easy swells with visitors wanting to experience the vibrant festivities that Mardi Gras is famous for.
Spirit Airlines first made its mark in San Antonio back in July 2022, and since then, it has expanded its services to include nonstop routes to popular destinations like Las Vegas and Orlando just four months after its initial announcement. The airline’s growing footprint at SAT reflects both its commitment to the area and the overwhelming demand from travelers. John Kirby, Spirit’s vice president of network planning, noted, “Our new daily flight connecting San Antonio and Atlanta provides a high-value option between the two metro cities and adds a seventh destination to our SAT route map next spring.”
Local leaders are thrilled about Spirit’s continued investment in San Antonio. Jesus Saenz, director of airports for the city of San Antonio Aviation Department, commented, “Spirit has provided more opportunities for people to fly affordably. Our travelers have benefited from their low fares, and they’ve helped bring in more visitors to our city.”
With these new routes, travelers will have even more options to explore the wonders of Atlanta and the vibrant culture of New Orleans. Whether you are looking for a business trip or a fun weekend getaway, these flights will provide accessible and affordable travel solutions.
As summer approaches, residents and visitors in San Antonio can feel confident that whether they’re seeking adventure in New Orleans or a bustling escape to Atlanta, Spirit Airlines is here to offer remarkable travel opportunities. As San Antonio continues to grow as a travel hub, one thing’s for sure: the skies are looking bright for local adventurers!
