San Antonio residents Jessica Gearhart and Tori Ferrante are living their worst nightmare: their French bulldog Hugo was stolen at gunpoint. Armed strangers hijacked their beloved pet from his trainer at McAllister Park, and a week later, they are still waiting for justice and Hugo’s safe return.
Although devastated, Gearhart and Ferrante keep their spirits up with pictures and recorded memories of Hugo. Gearhart mournfully said, “Almost every day, I look at his pictures and his videos in my phone, and I replay them, and I think about them,”. The couple is understandably concerned about Hugo’s wellbeing, wondering if he’s being fed and treated well.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed robbery incident occurred on February 27, 2024, during Hugo’s last training session at McAllister Park. The culprits threatened the trainer and dog with a gun, insisting they only wanted Hugo and that no harm would come to anyone else.
The San Antonio Police currently have an open investigation on the matter, looking at this dramatic ordeal as a case of aggravated robbery. They are currently hunting for three suspects. “Getting held up is traumatic, but at the same time, you’re so heartbroken, angry (and) upset … blaming yourself,” said Ferrante.
French Bulldogs are unfortunately quite frequently stolen due to their high market price. According to the Canine Journal, French Bulldogs are amongst the most commonly taken dogs and they are usually sold for between $1,500-$3,000. However, with hopes of finding Hugo and preventing such an ordeal happening again, the victims enthusiastically announced a reward for Hugo’s safe return. “The amount that we’re offering is going to be worth more than anything you can get for Hugo,” Ferrante said.
If you have any information at all relating to this case, please contact Ferrante at 512-595-1319 or Gearhart at 210-868-5977.
