Gather around, everyone! This past Saturday, the vibrant city of San Antonio witnessed something truly spectacular. The San Antonio Public Library Foundation (SAPLF) held its very first-ever “Over the Edge” fundraiser, and it was all about supporting local literacy programs.
Picture this: brave participants rappelling down the stunning 20-story Thompson San Antonio – Riverwalk Hotel, right next to the beautiful Central Library. Sounds thrilling, doesn’t it? Well, it was! A total of 50 enthusiastic folks, each having raised a minimum of $1,500, were selected to take the plunge and experience the exhilaration of rappelling down the side of the building.
As the participants made their way down, they couldn’t help but feel an adrenaline rush that seemed to lift their spirits. Executive Director Amy Hone shared, “Once they repel, they get down to the bottom, and they’re super excited. Every single person has said they would do this again!”
What’s even more exciting is that friends and family didn’t miss a moment of the action. They had the opportunity to watch a live stream from the hotel’s roof as their loved ones took the exhilarating plunge. The atmosphere was filled with cheers and encouragement! Those who witnessed the event were equally captivated, many exclaiming, “We’re signing up next time!”
Now, you might be thinking, “Was it safe?” Absolutely! The “Over the Edge” event was planned with meticulous attention to safety. With a proud track record spanning over 20 years, Over the Edge Global has hosted more than 1500 events in over 500 buildings worldwide. So rest assured, the participants were in good hands.
The event’s primary goal was to chip in for literacy programs in our beloved San Antonio. Every year, SAPLF successfully raises nearly $1 million for libraries in the area, and this unique fundraiser was a lively addition to their ongoing efforts. The money raised from this exhilarating experience will help support various literacy initiatives that benefit our community, helping to ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive.
If you’re feeling a surge of curiosity or excitement just reading about this event, you might be wondering if you could participate next time. The answer is likely yes! With such a positive response from the participants and spectators, there’s a strong chance this fantastic event will make a come back in the future. So keep an eye out for announcements—you might just find yourself soaring down the side of a building for an incredible cause!
San Antonio truly made a bold statement this weekend with the “Over the Edge” fundraiser. Not only did participants experience the thrill of rappelling, but they also contributed to something meaningful. It’s a reminder of how we can all come together to support literacy and education in our community. Until next time, let’s all keep rooting for our libraries and the fantastic programs they offer!
