In a shocking turn of events on Halloween night, a San Antonio man found himself in a terrifying situation following a car crash. The unsettling incident began after Ismael Perez, a 20-year-old local, was struck by a pickup truck while driving past a home hosting a lively house party.
Perez recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “I was driving on the road when a truck, a dully 350, had backed up into me.” After the collision, he noticed that the other driver was reluctant to exchange information, which immediately raised his alarm bells. Not one to take chances, Perez decided to pull out his phone and began recording the interaction. “I didn’t feel safe,” he mentioned, sensing that things might escalate if he didn’t document the unfolding drama.
What started as a simple traffic accident quickly escalated into a full-blown assault. “He opens the door and he starts yelling at me and that’s when he drags me out and I’m like holding onto the car,” Perez said, describing the moment when the other driver turned aggressive. Concerned that the other driver was under the influence, Perez noted, “He was kind of touching my face; you can tell like he was either intoxicated or on something.”
Seeking to avoid further confrontation, Perez attempted to return to his vehicle, aiming to wait for the police. However, his efforts were thwarted when he discovered that the locks on his car had been damaged in the crash. This allowed the aggressive driver to easily access Perez’s car door.
The situation took a dark turn when Perez recalled, “He throws me on the ground. I know he started punching me and I remember he started kicking my eye like that and just punching me, and I know he stepped on my hand.” The assault finally ended when other party-goers rushed to his aid, prompting the attacker to flee the scene. “I was screaming my lungs out,” reminisced Perez.
The physical toll of the attack was significant. Perez was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion. As if that wasn’t enough, he now faces mounting costs not only for medical expenses but also for repairs to his vehicle. In a bid to navigate this tough time, Perez and his sister have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the financial burdens resulting from the incident. “We just want to get back on our feet,” Perez shared.
As investigators work to identify the assailant, Perez recounted additional details that could lead to the man’s capture. He revealed that the truck appeared to be new, allowing him to gather essential dealership information from the recording he made during the altercation. The dealership has since been cooperative, which gives Perez hope that justice may be served.
Furthermore, Perez isn’t just focused on the driver; he hopes the female passenger in the truck will come forward. “It’s not a good thing for her to be hiding it. None of this should have happened the way it happened,” he stated earnestly.
Authorities have indicated that the driver faces charges related to the assault as well as failure to stop and provide information after the accident. As the legal processes unfold, community members are encouraged to support Perez in his recovery efforts. If you would like to assist, you can find his GoFundMe campaign online.
In a world where actions have consequences, Perez’s story serves as a stark reminder of the risks that can arise from even the most ordinary situations. It’s a story of resilience and the hope for justice in the face of adversity.
