San Antonio street with police presence after recent homicides.

News Summary

San Antonio is in shock following a series of tragic homicides, including the death of a 16-year-old. The community is calling for information on suspects involved in these violent events, as authorities work diligently to ensure safety.

San Antonio: Community in Shock Over Recent Homicides

In a string of shocking events, San Antonio is grappling with recent incidents of violence that have left the community in a state of disbelief. In less than a week, the city has witnessed tragic losses, including the murder of a teenager and upgrades in serious charges against individuals involved in other violent incidents.

Teenager’s Life Taken Too Soon

Starting off the grim news is the heartbreaking case of 16-year-old Messiah Martinez, who was tragically shot and killed on the evening of April 8. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. while Martinez was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on South Frio Street from Interstate 10. During this time, a light-colored SUV was spotted on the same route, matching the description of the vehicle involved in the shooting.

The police are now on the lookout for the suspect believed to be connected to this grievous act. Authorities have made a public appeal for anyone with information related to the suspect’s identification or whereabouts to come forth. To aid in the investigation, Crime Stoppers is generously offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest. Those with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867 or submit a tip anonymously online.

Most Wanted: Rondarrius Evans

If this tragic loss wasn’t enough, the San Antonio community is also alerted about another alarming situation concerning Rondarrius Evans. The 21-year-old fugitive has made headlines after being added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List. Evans is wanted on two capital murder charges linked to a disturbing double homicide that took place on July 6, 2024, in New Boston, Texas.

Current updates reveal that Evans is also being pursued for failing to appear in court regarding a previous drug offense, bringing further complications to his case. The authorities have stated that Evans has connections across Northeast Texas, including areas like Bowie, Camp, Titus, Franklin, and Morris counties, which raises concerns about his potential to evade capture. Crime Stoppers is offering another reward, also up to $5,000, for any information that could lead to his arrest, and of course, all tips will remain anonymous.

Charges Upgraded for Carmelo Savon Converse

Just when the situation seemed to unfold further, another development took place involving Carmelo Savon Converse, a 20-year-old who has been arrested overnight on a murder charge. This came after an altercation on June 25, 2024, where the victim, 18-year-old Anthony Simmons, succumbed to injuries from multiple gunshot wounds after being transported to a local hospital.

Initially, Converse faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but these were upgraded to murder following Simmons’ unfortunate death. The shooting was reported around 3:45 p.m. in the 5100 block of North Foster Road, and witnesses mentioned seeing at least three masked individuals, who were driving a dark silver Hyundai sedan during the incident.

Quick action from the authorities led to crucial developments, as police identified a known hangout at the 500 block of S Walters Street from where three masked men were spotted entering. A search warrant executed at this location uncovered a DVR, firearms, and masks. Conversations on social media between Simmons and an unidentified account hinted at a scheduled meeting, which turned deadly. Unfortunately for Simmons, days later, surveillance footage revealed three individuals shooting at him shortly after his arrival.

The community is left shattered, grappling not only with the loss of young lives but also with the realization that such violence can touch anyone, anywhere. Awareness is crucial, and authorities are urging anyone with even the slightest bit of information to step up and help create a safer community.
