Three Injured in Shocking House Fire on San Antonio’s East Side

San Antonio was shaken by a harrowing house fire that unfolded on Sunday evening, leaving three individuals injured and raising alarms in the neighborhood. The chilling incident occurred in the 100 block of Zerrcliff Lane just before 6:00 PM.

Trapped and Terrified

The fire ignited in the front corner of the residence, catching the occupants completely off guard. Among them were two women, aged 62 and 89, who found themselves trapped inside as the flames spread. Thankfully, a brave 27-year-old male relative attempted to rescue them. Displaying incredible courage, he broke several windows in a bid to save his family members.

Injuries and Emergency Response

During his rescue efforts, the young man suffered lacerations to his arm, receiving a tourniquet from a dedicated firefighter on the scene. His quick actions not only showcased his commitment to perform a noble deed but also highlighted the real dangers associated with such emergencies.

Meanwhile, the older woman began showing signs of smoke inhalation, prompting paramedics to spring into action with CPR. All three individuals involved in this tragic scene were transported to the hospital for treatment. While the 62-year-old seems to have faced the toughest battle, the 89-year-old woman is also suspected to suffer from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters on Scene

The determined firefighters worked diligently and managed to contain the fire to the front bedroom of the home, but the majority of the house succumbed to smoke damage. Fortunately, the young man played an essential role by helping the firefighters locate his mother and grandmother, optimizing the emergency response process.

Investigation Underway

What made this incident particularly suspicious were the atypical conditions surrounding the fire. Because of the fire’s intensity, fire and arson investigators were called in to examine the scene thoroughly and determine the cause. Currently, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and sadly, there’s no estimate on the damages as of yet.

Community Safety Concerns

This fire isn’t just an isolated thing; local fire officials are expressing concerns as this incident follows a series of recent house fires in the region. Just within the last 24 hours, there were two deadly fires in Bexar County. One heartbreaking incident involved the loss of an 11-year-old boy, identified as Drew Moreno, while another fire claimed the life of 61-year-old Gregorio Valdez, Jr..

In light of the increasing number of house fires, fire authorities are urging residents to be extra cautious. It’s vital for everyone to be aware of fire safety practices and take appropriate measures to prevent tragic incidents like these from occurring in the future.

A Message to the Community

As the investigation continues, our hearts go out to all those affected by this harrowing incident. Let’s all come together as a community to support one another and to ensure that our homes remain safe from such dangerous situations. Remember, safety always comes first!
