Stars & Stripes Salute: Things to do in San Antonio’s July 4th Weekend

San Antonio – Independence Day celebrations in San Antonio this year are extending beyond July 4th, with an impressive roster of events scheduled throughout the weekend. With a potpourri of music concerts, food festivals, arts and entertainment activities, the city is ready to celebrate America’s birthday in style.

Friday’s Lineup

Starting off the weekend is the multi-talented country singer, Bailey Zimmerman. Following his successful run at the 2023 ACM Awards, where he was nominated for the new male artist of the year, Zimmerman will perform at Whitewater Amphitheater with his hit singles “Fall in Love” and “Rock and a Hard Place.”

Friday also marks the inaugural event of the Stars & Stripes Salute at the historical Alamo Plaza. This day-to-night event will feature performances by the U.S. Air Force Rock Band, a drone show narrated by Texas country star Pat Green, and a variety of food trucks and family activities.

A Weekend full of Celebrations

Weekend celebrations continue at the historic Market Square, famed for its holiday activities. Live music, food booths, and kids’ activities will be available, with the square being colorfully decked out in red, white, and blue.

The San Antonio Botanical Garden is inviting citizens for a picnic amidst the beautiful flora, encouraging them to bring their picnic baskets and enjoy lawn games and coloring stations throughout the weekend.

Arts and Entertainment

The weekend will also see a host of arts and entertainment events. Visitors can explore colonialism at the “The C&C Center of Unfinished Business”, a touring installation by Julia Grosse and Yvette Mutumba, hosted at the Contemporary at Blue Star. Other exhibits include “Portraits and Figures by Leeanna Chipana” and “Cheng Xinhao: Silver … and Other Elements.”

Stand-up comedian Alfred Robles will present his Mexican American Dream Tour at the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club.

Saturday and Sunday Specials

The annual F.R.I.D.A. Fest, celebrating art by women and paying tribute to Frida Kahlo, features an art market with over 70 vendors, a fashion show, and a gallery and music and food. Country singer Mario Moreno will perform on Saturday, celebrating the release of his new single “Whenever You Come Around”.

On Sunday, Florida rock band A Day To Remember brings its The Least Anticipated Album Tour to town. Fans eagerly anticipate the release of some new music, following their latest single release “Feedback,” in late May.

Closing the weekend will be the film screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “Rear Window”, part of a new film series at the McNay Art Museum.

With such variegated events lined up, San Antonio is sure to provide an unforgettable Independence Day weekend.
