City of San Antonio Juneteenth 2024 Service Operations
In the heart of the city, residents of San Antonio are preparing to commemorate Juneteenth on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. As the city gears up for the celebrations, several municipal services are adjusting their plans. Here’s an in-depth overview of what services will remain open and which will remain temporarily closed to commemorate the historical event.
Police, Fire and General Services
City services that are inherently crucial to the public, such as public safety and emergency services, will continue their operations normally. These include San Antonio Police, Fire and EMS personnel who will be diligently working on their respective duties. The 3-1-1 Call Center will also be fully operational, and Animal Care and Code Enforcement Officers will be readily available for inspections and any emergency issues.
Visitors of the downtown area may take advantage of the on-street parking meter holiday, although this does not apply to off-street city-operated garages and lots. In addition, city parks, trails, and outdoor pools will be open to the public, albeit with limited fitness and park classes.
Waste Collection and Facilities
Regular collection schedules will be observed for garbage, recycling, and organics throughout the week. Municipal offices providing magistration services, SAPD’s detention center, La Villita, and Market Square shops, along with the Spanish Governor’s Palace, will remain open for business.
Facility and Office Closures
However, certain facilities and offices will be temporarily closed in commemoration of Juneteenth. This includes the Central Library and all library locations, The Darner Headquarters and Park Reservations Office, Head Start administrative offices and school district site, City of San Antonio Community Centers, among other facilities.
Administrative offices, including those of SAPD, SAFD, Child Care Services, Homeless Connections Hotline and Veteran Services, Street Outreach, Homeless Encampment Team, and various other city departments and services will also be closed. The same applies to Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers and Corporate office, Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, and Bulky Waste Drop and Household Hazardous Waste drop off centers.
As San Antonio residents observe Juneteenth, residents are encouraged to plan their day around these closures. For any emergency cases, public safety offices including the police and fire department will remain operational. The city wishes every San Antonian a meaningful Juneteenth celebration and reminds everyone to observe public safety and health measures during their activities.
