In a shocking turn of events, a San Antonio man, Franco Xavier Summers, 32, was arrested over the weekend concerning a tragic murder connected to a shooting outside a local Taco Palenque. The incident occurred on the bustling far North Side of the city, sending shockwaves through the community.
The details surrounding the murder, which took place in the 18000 block of Blanco Road, are both bizarre and heartbreaking. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Summers stands accused of shooting and killing Christopher Fuentes, 43, who was identified by local law enforcement. Tragically, Fuentes wasn’t just any victim; he was the father of Summers’ girlfriend, adding a layer of complexity to this already troubling scenario.
As narrated in the affidavit, the evening began innocently enough with Fuentes, his daughter, and Summers sharing drinks in an apartment. They decided to venture out to a bar, but things quickly took a dark turn when an argument erupted. The quarrel stemmed from Summers’ reluctance to pay the cover charge, escalating into a heated exchange.
During the confrontation, things went south—Summers allegedly threatened Fuentes, exclaiming that he “had a gun.” Unbeknownst to many, Summers had possessed a firearm for quite some time, as indicated by Fuentes’ daughter in her statement to investigators. Just moments later, after departing from Summers’ vehicle at Taco Palenque, Fuentes and his daughter faced a grim fate.
Investigators have revealed that video footage from the scene captured the moment the men wrestled near the vehicle. Based on the recordings, Fuentes seemed to reach for Summers through the window, leading to what appears to be a desperate struggle. In a sudden and tragic turn, Fuentes was shot multiple times before Summers fled the scene, speeding away from the restaurant.
The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) quickly got to work, and by Sunday afternoon, they were at an apartment complex in the 18200 block of Blanco Road responding to a reported family disturbance. After a careful search, they discovered Summers inside one of the units. Thankfully, he surrendered without resistance and was taken into custody without further incident.
This isn’t Summers’ first brush with the law. In fact, court records reveal he has a turbulent past involving a prior murder charge dating back to 2013. During that case, he claimed self-defense after a shooting that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Roger Rodriguez Jr.. Eventually, the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence, but it’s clear Summers’ history puts his current charges under a harsh spotlight.
Furthermore, in 2019, Summers was involved in a tense standoff with police after allegedly threatening family members with a gun. This incident saw him attempting to escape through a window but ultimately being apprehended for an outstanding warrant.
As it stands, Summers is facing serious charges, including the murder of Fuentes along with several unrelated allegations. The community is left grappling with this shocking incident, reflecting on the impacts of gun violence and the fragility of family relationships in dire circumstances.
As the investigation continues, the eyes of the public and law enforcement remain focused on finding answers and seeking justice for Fuentes and his loved ones. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
