In San Antonio, a man who was facing accusations of shooting and killing two dogs took drastic action as police attempted to serve a search warrant on him Wednesday. According to Police Chief William McManus, the incident unfolded at an apartment complex located in the 8500 block of Wakefield, near North Star Mall.
Officers had tracked the 45-year-old man to the apartment complex when they heard a gunshot from inside. The police chief stated that it is believed the man shot himself after hearing the officers arrive. A doughnut-equipped SWAT team deployed a drone to survey the situation and discovered him with a gunshot wound.
Initially, there was confusion about his condition, with reports indicating he might have been dead. However, it was later confirmed he still had a pulse and is currently in critical condition.
The tragic events follow heart-wrenching incidents over the weekend where two separate dogs were shot. The first victim was a two-year-old husky named Everest, who was killed while outside a neighbor’s home. The dog’s owner shared, “It’s so hard for me to see her go down like that. She was so sweet. She didn’t do anything to anybody.”
Alarming video footage revealed the moment Everest was shot, showing a dark SUV slowly approaching the home where she was located. The footage indicated that someone in the passenger seat took aim and fired at the dog.
In another unfortunate occurrence that same night, another dog, a four-month-old German Shepherd named Rosie, was also shot in her backyard. Her owner recounted the heartbreaking moment when Rosie was shot while lying in her favorite spot. “You’re here today, and you’re gone tomorrow because I truly love my dog,” he said.
These tragic incidents have deeply affected the community, stirring outrage and sadness among residents who have lost their beloved pets to such senseless violence. Pet owners are expressing their grief and disbelief at the unexpected loss, raising concerns about safety in their neighborhoods.
As investigations continue, locals are left to grapple with the aftermath of the violence, hoping for justice amid a seemingly growing trend of animal cruelty.
