San Antonio, Texas—Get ready to celebrate National Pancake Day in a delicious way while also supporting a noble cause! Two local non-profits have partnered together to create a heartwarming event that features a pancake-eating competition this Thursday, September 26th. The Haus Family Foundation, known for its connection to the Magnolia Pancake Haus, is hosting its 5th annual event to raise funds for veterans in need. How exciting is that?
Joining forces with the San Antonio Coalition for Veterans and Families (SACVF), this event is geared towards helping our military heroes who may be struggling to find their footing. Tony Fuentes, affectionately called “Doc,” is the Executive Director with SACVF and has a mission close to his heart. Last year alone, they provided support to 350 veterans! Can you imagine the difference that makes?
Doc explained that the coalition isn’t about simply giving out handouts; it’s all about providing a “hand up” to help veterans become productive members of society. They offer crucial services that range from housing for homeless veterans to assistance with utility bills. This enables veterans and their families to get back on their feet or address unresolved issues that other programs may not have been able to tackle.
The commitment of the SACVF is inspired in part by Doc’s own experiences. A combat medic who served two tours in Vietnam, he recognizes the vital role of being the first responder, not just in battle, but here at home too. “In Vietnam, or in any combat situation, when someone gets injured, who’s the first guy to call? The medic,” Doc explained. “Same thing here; when a veteran calls, we want to be their immediate response.” His passion for aiding struggling veterans resonates throughout the community, helping to build a supportive network.
The upcoming pancake-eating competition, part of this vibrant National Pancake Day celebration, will kick off at 5:00 p.m. at Magnolia Halle, located at 10319 Huebner Rd.. The community is invited to join in on the fun, and yes, you heard it right—there are VIP tables still available!
Now, if you think you’ve got what it takes to indulge in some flapjack action, you can compete for the top prize by being the first participant to devour six full-size pancakes. Think you can handle it? We sure hope so! Not only will you be enjoying some delicious pancakes, but you’ll also be supporting an incredible cause. What’s better than that?
If you’re eager to enter the competition or simply want to come and support the veterans, be sure to check out the Magnolia Pancake Haus website for ticket purchasing and additional information. It’s a fun event where you can enjoy good food, all while contributing to a vital cause that directly impacts our veterans in San Antonio.
So gather your friends and family, and let’s make this National Pancake Day one to remember! Food, fun, and community support await as we come together for an evening of pancakes and purpose.
