On a bright and enthusiastic day in San Antonio, high school athletes took center stage on February 5, 2025, for one of the most exciting events of their young careers: National Signing Day. This special day was all about celebrating these talented individuals as they signed their National Letters of Intent, committing to continue their athletic journeys at colleges across the country.
National Signing Day holds a special place in the hearts of student-athletes and their families. This year, however, the occasion felt a bit different due to the adjustments made in recent years. With an earlier signing period introduced back in 2017, many athletes opted to commit as early as mid-December. For some, this meant the option of leaving high school a semester early to jumpstart their training for fall sports. Even though the numbers may have slightly decreased for the February event, the spirit was very much alive!
The day showcased a remarkable roster of student-athletes, eager to embark on their next adventure. Among them was Daniel Soukup II, who will take his baseball talents to Grambling State University, alongside fellow baseball star Diego Sanchez heading to Ottawa University. Swimmer extraordinaire Taryn Welch signed with Lynn University, while track and field standout Aniah Tinsley chose Baldwin Wallace University.
Running cross country will see Eli Bliss donning the colors of Trinity University, while Cooper Martin is set to make his mark at Coastal Bend Community College. Basketball shining light Josh Bendele inked his deal with Albany College, and we can’t forget about the football players making strides, including Caleb Schuetze, Preston Baker, and Cade Spradling who are heading off to play for Angelo State University and the Air Force.
Notably, several other talented athletes also took the plunge on this significant day. Some of the future stars include the likes of Mia Perez for Texas Cross Country, Joshua Miller for Hardin-Simmons University in Tennis, and Gavin Parker making waves with Concordia University at Nebraska. The list goes on with diverse contributions from sports like football, baseball, soccer, and volleyball!
The excitement was palpable at local schools including Brandeis, MacArthur, and Veterans Memorial High Schools. They hosted ceremonies filled with cheers, proud family members, and friends, all supporting these young players as they signed on the dotted line. It was a great reminder of the hard work and dedication these students have showcased throughout their high school careers.
As the day unfolded, a full list of athletes and their signing details was being collected for all to see. Each name represents countless hours of practice, determination, and dreams of what lies ahead. Whether they are heading to play their sport at the college level or beginning a new chapter, it’s clear that these athletes are ready to embrace whatever challenges come their way.
National Signing Day is not just about the anticipation of collegiate sports, but it also symbolizes an important transition for young athletes eager to chase their dreams. As San Antonio’s talented athletes sign their names on their letters of intent, they leave high school with excellent memories while stepping confidently towards their futures. Here’s to a fantastic journey ahead for each of them!
