A significant political event is on the horizon as two Vice presidential candidates, Tim Walz and J.D. Vance, are due to encounter each other in a high-stakes verbal duel five weeks ahead of the briskly approaching Election Day. This critical juncture will be under the careful moderation of the esteemed San Antonio native, Norah O’Donnell, alongside Margaret Brennan, a gesture that beautifully brings both skill and a touch of Texas charm into the fierce waters of political discourse.
Exhibiting true grit and determination, Norah O’Donnell, who has enriched the journalism world with her insightful reporting for “CBS Evening News,” is set to co-moderate the debate together with Margaret Brennan of “Face the Nation”. The latter, a distinguished figure within the realm of foreign affairs correspondents, will be co-hosting this crucial political event with O’Donnell. A fascinating fact is that O’Donnell, a MacArthur High School alum, announced in July she would be making a switch from else from the anchor desk to a senior correspondent role for CBS News.
The rules of the debate, which were released by CBS News on Monday, September 30, present a less traditional yet practical format. Each candidate is afforded two minutes to answer a question, and another two minutes for response, with the possibility of an additional minute extended by the discretion of the Moderator.
Unlike previous debates, there will be no opening statements allowed nor the use of pre-written notes or props. The audience will also be entirely absent and a limited commercial break of two four-minutes intervals will be included.
The eagerly anticipated Vice Presidential Debate is scheduled to unfold on Tuesday, October 1, at 8 p.m. CST and is estimated to run a total length of 90 minutes.
The event will be made widely accessible for all, available for free streaming via the CBS News App, Paramount+, Youtube, and CBSNews.com. Additionally, the debate will be aired on CBS broadcast stations and affiliates across the country.
Taking place in the heart of New York City, this politically vibrant event is to unfold at the CBS Broadcast Center. An interesting note is that the two presidential debates in 2024 were accounted for by CNN and ABC News.
