North San Antonio Neighborhood Terrorized After Family Pets Randomly Targeted and Killed

Unsettling Incidents in the Community

In North San Antonio, residents are reeling with fear after a shocking series of events left beloved family pets targeted and tragically killed. The unsettling incidents occurred near Olmos Park, where at least two dogs have been shot by strangers in what appears to be a random act of violence.

The Loss of a Family Friend

One of the victims was a sweet-natured dog named Everest, who was just shy of her second birthday. Her owner, who wishes to remain anonymous due to safety concerns, shared their heartbreak over the loss. “Everest would just go sit next to you and then stare at you. She would put her little paw on you when she knew you were having a bad day,” they recalled. The attack happened early Saturday morning on West Mariposa Drive, leaving the family both devastated and on edge.

Residents Fear for Their Safety

The fear in the community is palpable. As residents recount the frightening events, they express worry not only for their pets but for their children as well. One concerned homeowner stated, “It’s scary, it’s really scary that it could be anybody, not just Everest or a dog. I fear, what if my babies were on the other side of that fence? What if they missed? What if they hit somebody else?”

Police Response and Community Vigilance

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus addressed the community’s concerns, noting that residents have often reported hearing gunfire from passing vehicles in recent months. He expressed that while shootings are not uncommon in many neighborhood meetings, the targeting of animals is a disturbing new development. “This is something new for me. There are people riding around, shooting dogs, and it’s a dangerous thing that people are doing,” Chief McManus remarked, urging the community to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.

Investigation Underway

Detectives are currently combing through security footage to identify the culprits behind these heinous acts. Chief McManus has asked that anyone who sees anything out of the ordinary report it to the police immediately, emphasizing that vigilant reporting could prevent further tragedies.

Community Impact

As residents come to terms with the fear and uncertainty that has gripped their neighborhood, the loss of pets like Everest serves as a stark reminder of the unexpected threats that can emerge in daily life. The community mourns together while also rallying to protect one another and their loved ones, both human and furry.
