San Antonio Police Dispel Serial Killer Rumors Tied to Caleb Harris Case
In a recent update, the Corpus Christi Police Department in San Antonio, Texas, has negated the rumors and speculations regarding the existence of a supposed serial killer in the region. The rumors emerged following perceived similarities in a few recent crime cases.
Origin of The Rumors
Speculation ensued after the discovery of a body at a San Antonio Water System treatment plant. A plant worker reportedly found the body floating on the surface of the water in a sewage tank during a routine check on Sunday, September 8. The body was found at the Leon Creek Water Recycling Facility on the Southside. The worker promptly roped the body to impede it from drifting further inside the storage tank before notifying police about the unexpected discovery.
The case drew comparisons from residents to the circumstances surrounding the case of Caleb Harris, a student at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Harris had been missing for several months before the police confirmed that the remains found inside a City Wastewater Lift Station on July 17 were his. The resemblance in the circumstances of the two cases resulted in the Corpus Christi Crónica suggesting the likelihood of a serial killer operating in the area in one of their popular posts.
Response from the Corpus Christi Police Department
Responding to the serial killer speculations, Antonio Contreras, the public information officer for the Corpus Christi Police Department, held a press conference where he stated, “No, we’re not looking at it as a serial killer.” Emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation into Harris’ case, Contreras said nothing has yet led the department to suspect the operation of a serial killer in the area. He vowed that the police will release new information on the Harris case whenever new developments come to light.
San Antonio Police Department’s Statements
Contradicting the speculations, the San Antonio Police Department reiterated the isolated nature of their case. The department refuted any theories of foul play in the recently discovered body case, categorizing it as an instance of sudden death. The statements left the community reassured of their safety while the investigations proceed.
There is no denying that such rumors can evoke a state of fear and anxiety among residents. However, these dispelled speculations reinforce the importance of relying on verified sources of information in such critical situations.
