A Grisly Scene:

A quiet neighborhood near Balcones Heights, San Antonio, was the setting for an apparent murder-suicide. The San Antonio Police Department is investigating the gruesome incident which left two dead on Thursday afternoon: a married couple, both 64 years old.

The victims were identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as Manuel Limon and Azucena Limon. It was on Thursday that Azucena Limon had marked her 64th birthday, adding further sorrow to an already tragic case.

The Discovery:

According to a preliminary police report, officers were called to the 200 block of One Oak Drive after receiving reports of a shooting and the discovery of two bodies. They arrived at about 4.13 PM to find a distressing scene.

An initial investigation revealed that Manuel Limon allegedly shot his wife, Azucena, while she slept in bed before subsequently turning the firearm on himself. The report states that a shotgun was used in the incident, the same weapon used to dispatch both lives.

A family member, whose identity remains undisclosed, discovered the morbid scene and immediately called the authorities. The police believe the incident occurred earlier in the day.

Medical Examiner’s Report:

The Medical Examiner’s Office told reporters that Azucena died from a shotgun wound to her chest, while Manuel succumbed to a similar wound to his abdomen. However, the specific nature of the relationship between the deceased was not disclosed. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.

Tragic Pattern:

The fatalities from this incident bring the count to four murder-suicides in the San Antonio area within the last six weeks – a worrisome trend.

In another similar incident on September 15, a 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were found dead in an apartment in Stone Oak. Authorities also reported a case of apparent murder-suicide involving a prominent attorney and his wife in their $1.3 million home in Shavano Park on August 18. There was another case reported on August 14 in Converse, where a couple was found dead following 911 calls about a noisy disturbance at the residence.

Each of these cases underscores the urgent need for community awareness, mental health interventions, and educational programs on conflict resolution to stem this disconcerting rise in violence.
