San Antonio Police Station where accountability is key.
A San Antonio police officer, Elliott Torres, has been suspended for 45 days following multiple infractions, including reckless driving and policy violations. The internal investigation revealed a concerning pattern of speeding, disregard for protocols, and issues with body camera activation. Community members are now calling for stricter measures to ensure accountability and restore public trust in the police department.
In a recent turn of events that has caught the attention of both residents and law enforcement officials, a police officer from San Antonio has been suspended for 45 days due to a string of infractions involving speeding and policy violations. The officer in question, Elliott Torres, who joined the San Antonio Police Department in 2022, has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Records show that Officer Torres exhibited a troubling pattern of behavior during his time on duty. It appears he was documented speeding on numerous occasions, sometimes even with suspects in his vehicle. An alarming audit from August 2024 revealed that he exceeded the speed limit during at least five separate calls. In one particularly concerning instance, he was recorded driving more than 10 miles over the speed limit while transporting four individuals to jail.
To add fuel to the fire, it wasn’t just the speeding that raised eyebrows. Officer Torres also faced accusations of failing to follow several department policies. He was noted for insubordination and not adhering to protocols when responding to emergency calls. A supervisor had previously instructed him to comply with the speed limit and indicated that his driving would be monitored over the next 90 days.
It gets more complicated. Torres reportedly failed to activate his body camera during multiple interactions while on duty. Out of a total of 97 calls, his camera was off for five calls and delayed activation occurred on 88 occasions. In moments where the camera was actually rolling, critical details were still overlooked. For instance, during one arrest, he stumbled upon a wallet but neglected to document the money found inside and also did not report returning it to the suspect’s family.
Following an internal investigation that spanned over a month and a half, investigators found that Torres had not only violated speeding regulations but had also ignored red lights on at least one occasion. Between March and August of 2024, he was caught speeding on 23 different days, even when he was not assigned to any incidents. This pattern of risky behaviors has raised significant concerns about officer accountability and public safety.
As a consequence of these troubling findings, Officer Torres began his suspension on February 26, 2025, which is expected to last until April 11, 2025. The incident has sparked discussions among community members about the importance of proper conduct and protocol adherence in law enforcement officers, a matter that is crucial to maintaining trust between the police and the community they serve.
The citizens of San Antonio can only hope that this incident serves as a wake-up call for the police department. The integrity of the city’s law enforcement hangs in the balance, and incidents like these only serve to undermine public confidence. Many community members are expressing their hope that stricter measures will be put in place to ensure that officers abide by the rules designed to protect both the public and law enforcement professionals alike.
As the suspension period unfolds, the San Antonio Police Department will likely be under scrutiny, and many are watching closely to see how they will address this situation going forward. Law enforcement agencies across the country are continually working to maintain public trust, and ensuring officers adhere to protocols is a key part of that mission. Officer Torres’s case could serve as a crucial lesson in accountability and adherence to policies for police departments moving forward.
