Texas Suburbs Surge: New Braunfels and Seguin Lead Population Growth Around San Antonio

Texas Towns on the Rise: What’s Happening Around San Antonio?

So, let’s talk about San Antonio. Known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and an abundance of tacos, it seems that while our lovely city is growing, there’s a bit of a shift happening in the surrounding areas. Recent data shows that smaller towns like New Braunfels and Seguin are experiencing a population boom that’s outpacing even our major cities. Isn’t that interesting?

New Numbers Are In!

According to the Texas Demographic Center, the population of Texas has now surpassed 30.7 million people, a growth of about 5% since 2020. Impressive, right? Most of this growth is happening in big cities, particularly within what’s known as the Texas Triangle, comprising Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and, of course, San Antonio. Together, these areas account for a whopping 69% of the state’s population!

What About Our Surrounding Suburbs?

Interestingly enough, the cities around these major metropolises, referred to as the “Suburban Rings,” are seeing even more robust growth. For example, while Bexar County (home to San Antonio) has seen just a slight population percentage change of under 0% from 2020 to 2023, towns like Converse, Cibolo, New Braunfels, Seguin, San Marcos, and Kyle have each seen their populations surge by an astounding 25% to 39.9% in that same time frame.

To put this into perspective, the San Antonio-New Braunfels area gained about 167,441 residents and now has a combined 10% share of the state’s growth. Meanwhile, the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos area experienced an even heftier bump with a total population increase of 247,845 at 15%.

All About the Numbers

San Antonio itself gained over 52,000 individuals, an impressive feat. Not to be outdone, our neighboring towns have seen more than 25,000 new residents, making the region a hot spot in Texas. If you ever thought about moving to the suburbs, it seems they’re becoming quite the popular choice!

In total, North Texas accounted for 34% of the state’s population growth, while the Houston-Pasadena-Woodlands area claimed about 25%. This boom began in earnest in 2020, and with data being collected since last summer, it’s a testament to the rapid growth trends in our great state.

So, What Does This Mean for Us?

For those of us who adore San Antonio, it’s essential to keep an eye on these changes. Whether you’re a local or considering moving here, it’s fascinating to see how the landscape is shifting. With the suburban regions expanding quickly, they’re not only attracting new residents but also businesses and opportunities.

To say the least, our great state of Texas is buzzing! As we embrace change and growth, let’s celebrate the unique charm of San Antonio while keeping an open mind about the vibrant areas around us. With new faces moving in and an ever-evolving community, there’s no telling what the future holds!

So, if you fancy a stroll around the city or a weekend getaway in the nearby burgeoning towns, just know that there’s plenty to love about our region. Who knows? You might just fall in love with the *new* emerging vibes around San Antonio!
