San Antonio Ride Share Driver Succumbs to Gunshot Wounds

San Antonio, North Side – Ride Share Driver Falls to Gunfire

A ride share driver, working in the northern part of San Antonio, tragically lost his life early Monday morning due to gunshot injuries. According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the driver, 62-year-old Robert Renteria, was shot in the back in what appears to be a fatal case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Details of the Incident

San Antonio police reported the shooting occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Anchor Drive, situated near Lockhill Selma Road and Northwest Military Highway. Investigators’ preliminary findings suggest Renteria found himself caught in crossfire, with an unknown individual apparently shooting at his passenger, who in turn was returning fire.

Shell casings were discovered both inside and outside the vehicle, indicative of the exchange of gunshots within such a confined area. Authorities have stated they are presently searching for both the unidentified suspect and the passenger involved.

Transported to Hospital

In the aftermath of the shooting, Renteria was promptly transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital amidst desperate attempts to preserve his life. However, the extent of his injuries proved too severe, leading to his passing a short while after arrival at the hospital.

Investigation Underway

In a concerted effort to uncover exactly what transpired in the lead-up to the shooting and the aftermath, the San Antonio police have assigned their Homicide Unit to the case. The investigation is currently ongoing, with officers engaged in tracking down the suspect and the passenger to shed light on the events of that tragic night.

Public Appeal for Assistance

Authorities are urging anyone with any information to come forward to help with this case. Tragedies like this remind us of the risks faced by those working in the ride share industry. Protecting those who provide such a crucial service to the community must become a matter of priority.
