Sponsor Our ArticlesSan Antonio drivers should prepare for significant road closures this weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation implements several key closures along Loop 1604. Starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, both westbound and eastbound lanes, as well as interchanges with Interstate 10, will be affected. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and expect detours due to the ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion project aimed at improving traffic flow and expanding capacity.
This weekend, San Antonio drivers will need to hit the brakes on their usual routes as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) rolls out several key road closures along Loop 1604. Whether you’re commuting to work or just planning a weekend adventure, it’s important to stay updated so you don’t find yourself stuck in traffic!
The closures will primarily impact the interchanges between Loop 1604 and Interstate 10, along with the connections between Interstate 35 and Loop 410. Mark your calendars, as the schedule is set to begin at 11 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, and will continue into the early hours of Saturday morning.
To break it down, here are the detailed timings:
But wait, there’s more! The cloverleaf ramp linking I-10 westbound to Loop 1604 westbound will be inaccessible from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, alongside the I-10 westbound bypass lane.
If you thought the closures would only last one night, think again! An additional closure is set for Saturday night, where Loop 1604’s westbound lanes at the I-10 crossing will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday. Be prepared for detours!
All this hustle and bustle is part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project. This ambitious project aims to expand the highway from a modest four lanes to a whopping ten lanes between Bandera Road and Interstate 35. It’s a big job to enhance capacity and improve traffic flow, but it does come at the expense of weekend drivers who will face some challenges.
In addition to the Loop 1604 closures, TxDOT will also shut down the ramp linking I-35 southbound to Loop 410 southbound from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for necessary bridge work. Furthermore, the entrance ramp from the southbound I-35 frontage road to southbound Loop 410 will be closed.
With all of these upcoming closures, your best bet is to plan your route ahead of time. TxDOT will provide detour routes to help you navigate around the closures, so don’t hesitate to check their resources before hitting the road.
And remember, law enforcement will be on hand to manage traffic flow through affected intersections as needed. So stay safe and drive carefully!
Enjoy your weekend, San Antonio, and happy travels!
