In a heartbreaking turn of events, the city of San Antonio has found itself grappling with a tragic accident that unfolded near Fair Oaks Ranch on December 19, 2024. An incident at the esteemed Excelled Montessori Plus School has resulted in the loss of a young teacher’s life and left several children injured, leading to an outpouring of grief and anxiety across the community.
On that fateful day, a parent’s vehicle accidentally collided with another car in the school parking lot. The crash resulted in a dramatic chain reaction that ultimately struck a nearby fence where little children were joyfully playing. The impact was severe; Mkaya Amrani, a sweet 1-year-old girl, suffered critical injuries and is currently receiving medical attention in a hospital. Tragically, her teacher, 22-year-old Alexis Rosales, lost her life at the scene of the incident.
Aside from Mkaya, at least five other children were taken to various hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to precautionary measures. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities among the children involved. Initial reports suggest that the driver of the car involved in the crash experienced a medical episode right before the accident occurred. Authorities, including Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, have clarified that there is no indication of intoxication or any criminal behavior from the driver’s actions.
Currently, the driver has stopped cooperating with investigators, directing all inquiries to her legal representation. This development has left the families affected by this tragedy yearning for more information about the events that led to this devastating accident.
Amongst this sorrowful backdrop, Pibo Amrani, the father of Mkaya, has asked for clarity and accountability from Bexar County investigators. He, along with other concerned parents, has also called for greater safety measures to be implemented within school zones. They are advocating for the installation of concrete barriers and enhancing playground security to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
Excelled Montessori Plus School has shown remarkable support for the grieving community by launching a GoFundMe page aimed at assisting with the funeral costs for the beloved teacher, Alexis Rosales. The initiative has already raised over $20,000, highlighting the profound impact Rosales had on the lives of her students and their families.
