Winter Weather Woes: San Antonio Schools Adjust Schedules

As the chill of winter sets in, the vibrant city of San Antonio is bracing for a chilly spell with temperatures expected to dip, and wind gusts potentially reaching up to 30 mph! From January 6 to January 10, 2025, the weather might bring a bit of turmoil to our beloved schools. But don’t worry; we’re here to keep you informed about all the changes and important announcements from local school districts.

Normal Friday Classes for Most

Despite the impending winter weather, many school districts are going about their routines and keeping classes as normal on Friday. This includes major districts such as Alamo Heights, East Central, Edgewood, Fort Sam Houston, Hays Consolidated, and many others. If your child attends one of these schools, it looks like they will be heading to school as usual!

Changes in Comfort and Crystal City

Now, while most districts are keeping their doors open, Comfort ISD in Kendall County is taking the cautious route and will cancel classes entirely due to the anticipated severe weather. Parents in Comfort will need to arrange alternative plans for their kiddos.

If you’re in Mason County or Zavala County, it’s a slightly different picture. Mason ISD and Crystal City ISD are delaying their starts on Friday. This means students will get a little more time to cozy up before heading out into the frosty air!

North East ISD Takes Precautions

For families in the North East ISD, students will also be reporting with a slight delay, so make a note that the school day kicks off at 9:30 a.m. instead of the usual time. Staff members are expected to arrive a bit earlier at 9 a.m. This prudent move helps ensure that everyone stays safe while still learning.

Weather Watching in Northside and Hays CISD

Meanwhile, Northside ISD is keeping a close eye on weather updates and road conditions but currently doesn’t anticipate any closures. Hays CISD remains hopeful for a regular schedule but suggests that families bundle up before heading out!

Safety Comes First at Judson and Edgewood ISDs

A quick reminder for parents: all outdoor after-school activities have been canceled by Judson ISD due to the unpredictable weather. Similarly, Edgewood ISD campuses plan to open early on Friday, creating a warm, safe environment as students arrive to shake off the winter chill.

Brave the Cold – Stay Updated!

The forecast has us looking at temperatures falling into the low 20s by Friday night, especially in the Hill Country, so make sure to bundle your children up in warm layers! Remember that no after-school activities will be held after 5 p.m. on Thursday due to weather concerns.

Rest assured, ongoing updates regarding school closures or delays will be made available as new information comes in. Staying informed is key during these chilly days, so keep an eye out for any announcements to help you plan your schedules.

Although winter can be unpredictable, our community shows resilience. Let’s stay warm, stay safe, and look forward to cozy times with hot cocoa while we weather this cold front together!
