San Antonio Residents Fight Back: Two Would-be-Crime Victims Shoot Suspects

Thursday morning in San Antonio witnessed a spike in an unexpected criminal trend: potential victims of criminal activities fought back by shooting the culprits. This week, two separate incidents of would-be victims challenging and subsequently injuring perpetrators occurred, according to local authorities.

An Unusual Turn of Events

San Antonio police sergeant, Andrew Valle, mentioned the rise in such cases while investigating the second shooting incident that occurred Thursday morning. “It does seem there is a spike in these types of activities,” Valle commented, indicating a growing trend of potential crime victims choosing active resistance.

The First Incident: An Intruder Deterred

The sequence of events kicked off at an apartment complex on Marbach Road, where the resident shot an intruder who had attempted to forcefully enter his apartment around 7:30 a.m. The tenant confronted the suspect, saying, ‘What are you doing? You don’t live here.’ The alleged offender was wounded by the resident’s gunshot and promptly transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his stomach.

The Second Incident: Thieves Threatened at Gun Point

A few hours later, another incident unfolded in the 400 block of General Kruger. A resident shot two men he claimed were stealing materials from his property. The homeowner reportedly noticed the suspects on his surveillance cameras around 5 a.m and confronted them. It was allegedly the pair’s second attempt to steal roofing materials from the homeowner’s driveway. The two suspects, aged 32 and 34, were later arrested on theft charges. Further investigations deemed that the homeowner was justified in shooting in defense of his property. As such, he will not face legal prosecution.

Surge in Reactive Violence

According to Valle, this seeming rise in self-defense cases is unique, but understandable. “I can’t say. There’s probably not just one factor. It’s probably a lot of things,” he stated. While the police officer called for residents to contact the authorities as a primary response, he noted the natural desire for citizens to defend their homes and safety. Jermaine Nollie, a local resident who witnessed the aftermath of the Marbach apartment shooting, commented, “We are in fear of our lives in this community. To defend yourself and defend your place that you’re living at, I don’t see where it’s wrong.”
