San Antonio Faces Scorching Temperatures This Week as Summer Heat Continues

San Antonio Sizzles with Summer Heat: A Look at This Week’s Weather

Hey San Antonio! If you’ve stepped outside recently, you’ve probably noticed that we are right in the thick of what some folks are calling our “second summer.” Yep, the mid-September heat is upon us, and it’s not letting up anytime soon! In fact, with temperatures soaring toward 97 degrees today, we might just be on the cusp of near-record heat!

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!

The National Weather Service has alluded to a few reasons for this sweltering weather. First, we’ve got those pesky dew points in the 70s, which means the air is feeling quite muggy and sticky. It’s a combo that translates into stifling humidity-driven heat index values which could reach a sizzling 104 degrees today. So even if the thermometer says 97, your body might just feel like you’re standing in the direct beam of a summer sun!

Summer Temperatures Breaking Records

Let’s put that into perspective: The average high temperature for this date, based on climate data from the past several decades, is a much more bearable 90 degrees. That makes today’s forecast a whopping seven degrees above average. In fact, we’re just one degree away from breaking the daily temperature record, which was set back in 1997 at 98 degrees.

Cooler Nights Just a Dream?

Even our evening temps are taking the higher road! As the sun sets and you head outside, expect it to be a warm 75 degrees at night, which is six degrees above normal. With balmy southerly winds keeping things warm, it looks like we might not get much of a break from the heat even after the sun dips below the horizon!

A Glimmer of Hope: Cooler Weather Ahead?

Now, before you start wishing for cooler days, hold onto your hats! There’s a stationary front making its way into the eastern half of Texas, which could sprinkle some isolated showers later this afternoon. But keep in mind, the heat will mostly stick around due to a strong upper-level high-pressure system that is keeping our skies mostly cloud-free. Isn’t that just typical of Texas weather?

Upcoming Forecast: Lots of Sun and Heat

Looking ahead, it seems like we might have a repeat of today’s conditions throughout the week. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are all shaping up to be mostly sunny, with temperatures hovering around 96 degrees each day. So don’t pack your shorts away just yet—they’ll still be your best friend for a little while longer!

A Light at the End of the Tunnel

By the weekend, though, there’s a light showing through, with temperatures starting to ease ever so slightly. Expect highs in the low to mid-90s instead of the high 90s. Saturday will likely bring the same relentless sunshine but with a hint of relief as evening temps dip into the low 70s. That’s practically sweater weather compared to what we’ve been feeling!

Stay Hydrated and Enjoy the Heat!

So, San Antonio, as we ride this wave of summer temperatures, be sure to stay hydrated and enjoy the warm, sunny days. As we know all too well, cooler weather will arrive sooner or later, ready to remind us why we love fall so much. But until then, let’s embrace the heat and make the most of our beautiful Texas days!
