San Antonio Experiences Unprecedented Heat as 2024 Becomes Hottest Year on Record

San Antonio Heats Up to Record-Breaking Temperatures in 2024!

Well folks, it seems like San Antonio has turned up the heat this year! As of November 18, 2024, our beloved city has officially recorded its hottest year on record, with an average temperature of a balmy 74.9 degrees. Can you believe it?

The Wild Weather Ride of 2024

This year has been quite the rollercoaster when it comes to temperatures. Let’s kick things off with a look back at January, a month that started with frost rather than sun. San Antonio saw temperatures plummet to a chilly 18 degrees, making it a downright freezing January that was 3.2 degrees below average. Who would’ve thought we’d wake up to icy mornings following such a blazing summer last year?

But hold onto your hats! February swung the pendulum back in the other direction, giving us a delightful taste of warmth with an average of 4 degrees above average. It was a cheerier month as we basked in the sun, enjoying highs that hit 87 degrees on the 22nd.

Spring into Summer

As we rolled into spring, temperatures stayed hot at least for the most part. From March through May, San Antonio experienced an average 3.7 degrees above the norm. Seems like everyone was in shorts and flip-flops, right?

Then came summer—a season that made us feel like we were living in an oven. With 27 sizzling days reaching 100 degrees or higher, summer 2024 was officially recorded as the fifth-hottest on the books. Yikes! The previous summer in 2023 still holds the crown for being the hottest. But if you thought that was it, think again!

Fall: A Hot Streak

As we transitioned into the fall months, things only got *spicier*! Since September 10, a whopping 66 out of 70 days saw us basking in above-average high temperatures. In fact, this fall has emerged as the hottest in San Antonio’s history, with temps averaging 5.7 degrees warmer than usual. Not particularly what you’d call a typical autumn vibe, huh?

Will 2024 Finish Strong?

While the numbers speak for themselves suggesting we’re cooking up a record-breaking year, it’s not all set in stone just yet. We still have about seven weeks left before 2024 waves goodbye. So, could we see temperatures push even higher to beat last year’s overall average? Well, that’s the burning question on everyone’s mind!

Looking back to the closing weeks of 2023, temperatures only managed to stay about 1.5 degrees above average during the same period. But based on forecasts, it seems we might be in the clear. The long-range models are hinting at averages 2 to 4 degrees above normal throughout December. If that occurs, we can officially crown 2024 as the hottest year in San Antonio’s climatic history!

The Final Countdown

As December approaches, the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center is raising anticipation levels by expecting a warm return. If San Antonio continues to stay above those averages, the chance is high that 2024 will go down in the record books according to meteorologists.

So, San Antonio, keep those summer clothes handy for just a little bit longer! Whether you’re sipping sweet tea on your patio or trying to stay cool in one of the city’s famous swimming holes, be prepared for a warm farewell to this incredible year!
