San Antonio has something to celebrate this holiday season! The much-anticipated indie romantic comedy “Say A Little Prayer”, which is not only set in our beloved city but also filmed right here, has an official release date and a shiny new trailer to boot!
Mark your calendars because AMC Theatres will showcase this delightful film during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, popping up in 100 theaters nationwide. While specific locations haven’t been confirmed, word on the street suggests that San Antonio might just be one of the lucky cities to screen it, especially since the AMC Rivercenter 11 is conveniently located downtown.
The movie stars a fantastic trio of actresses: Jackie Cruz of Orange is the New Black fame as Cristina, Vannessa Vasquez, known for Divorce Bait, playing Adela, and Vivian Lamolli, who graces the screen as Ruby. These three amigas juggle their work lives in the Alamo City while navigating the turbulent waters of love. But when Adela’s abuela, played by the beloved Mexican superstar Angélica María, suggests a special prayer to St. Anthony for finding a husband, their lives take a fantastic turn. Suddenly, a dreamboat named Rafael, portrayed by none other than international music sensation Luis Fonsi, shows up as if he’s been sent from above!
For those who might not know, the “Despacito” hitmaker is making his feature-film debut with this project. Fonsi himself is genuinely excited about stepping into the acting world. He mentioned during interviews that he felt a connection with the film’s script. “Where I feel more comfortable is with my guitar in my hand and a microphone in front of me,” he revealed, “but when I read the script, I said, ‘You know what? I want to be a part of this.’” Not just as an actor, but as a producer and songwriter as well, Fonsi has surely put his heart and soul into this film.
The film, directed by Patrick Perez Vidauri and with Edward James Olmos as an executive producer, promises to deliver a story filled with laughter, love, and even some catchy tunes. In fact, Fonsi wrote an original song that he performs in a charming patio scene filmed at the iconic Jaime’s Place, a local treasure on the West Side.
Written and produced by Nancy De Los Santos, who has previously worked on notable San Antonio films like Selena, “Say A Little Prayer” is already stirring up excitement in the local community and beyond. With such a skilled team behind the camera and a lovely story in the forefront, this film truly feels like a celebration of San Antonio’s culture and charm.
The film had its first screening on May 31 at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, and that event was only the beginning. Now, as we approach Thanksgiving, let’s rally together, grab our family and friends, and get ready for a joyous movie experience that highlights love, friendship, and the vibrant spirit of our city.
So, will you join in and say a little prayer to ensure you catch this delightful film? We sure hope so, as it promises to be a fun ride that San Antonio will proudly call its own!
